Editorial Review for Pangaea – by Joshua Hinsdale
In Short
Pretty people primp and queue up outside to gain entrance to this 8,000-square-foot upstairs lounge. Dancers clad scantily in animal prints gyrate to DJ mixes and live bongo drums. Large, white canvas panels are draped from the cavernous ceiling, hanging above giant padded red divans and colored booths tucked against the walls. Groups at reserved tables order bottles of their favorite toxins, priced at an ultra premium, and enjoy the set-up and table service.

Insider Tips
When to GoDJs are imported from Miami, New York and other urban party meccas on a weekly basis and sponsored events are de rigeur. Call for details.
Save TimeIf you want to be certain that you'll get in without waiting in long lines, head over before 10pm when the club starts to fill up.
Look GoodUpscale, trendy and fashionable are the rules of thumb. Though the club says it doesn't cherry pick guests, it won't hurt to look the part.
Fun FactMichael Ault, creator of New York's Spy bar, spearheaded the investment of $3 million to convert this former Alamo Drafthouse location into Pangaea.

I just moved here from North Miami Beach and was invited to an exclusive fashion show that was being thrown by a local men's clothing store last night. By far, Pangaea is NOT what it is hyped up to be. I didn't understand the cheap display of a so called, "Safari theme." I felt obligated to run to the nearest costume store and purchase a Tarzan outfit. Other than the fashion show, which was great, don't waste your time going there. After the fashion show, tables were quickly filled with empty buckets and PLASTIC drinking cups (plastic? really?). The manager, which I assumed he was, was a 50 yr old guy who wore a baseball cap backwards, (dude, you are 50 - age appropriate!) was telling people to get up to make room for Barbie doll pretentious women to sit down. And the music - a DJ who downloads songs from Itunes and plays them on his Apple laptop, in my book, is not a DJ. Upon finishing my first and last drink, I noticed a server raising two bottles up in the air by a table of people with sparklers on the ends of each of them! Sparklers! Well, that did it for me....
Pros: Still thinking...
Cons: Change the name, change the look, change the music, change....

When I went to Pangaea, my initial impressions were that this was going to be yet another lame bottle service club, however these guys actually did a pretty good job on the lounge idea that I have not seen before in Austin or Houston. Although it took some time for this place to get hype, by about 12 the crowd starting to grow and I actually saw people dancing on the furniture, it reminded me of the type of ambiance that you only see and feel while partying in Europe. I'm not a bottle service guy, but I still had good time regardless. I get tired of going to the same places over and over and this place helped change that up a little. I would recommend it for a change from the usual routine.
Pros: It's different
Cons: Bottle Service Theme is too much of the focus, but then again it is a bottle service club
