My husband and I have been going to the Dave's on Howard Lane for years. They have the best customer service. Everyone is always friendly and very helpful. They have gone above and beyond for us on many occasions. It's refreshing to have a reliable auto repair place for our vehicles. They are hard to come by these days. We have never felt ripped off. They are competitive with their quotes and do their best to beat other quotes.

Austin's Best Mechanic's – My car is my baby and I love taking it to a place where the people all know what's going on and what they're all talking about. Dave's is such a place. Everyone here is super freaking nice and they all are genuinely interested in you and your automobile. They don't give you a run around, they don't give you long winded "recommendations" they just wrench on your car, tell you what's wrong (should there be something wrong) and tell you how they'll fix it. Truly hassle free mechanic.

Best part is they service Subarus and more. I will take my Subie no where else!

Well Done!! Above and Beyond! – Wow! This place is awesome. I brought my car in for noise's in the rear end, was told by another shop (ok Sears) that I needed shocks and rear differential service. The noise was only above 50 mph an hour so wasn't sure if it was true or not. Went to Dave's the Service Manager took it for a ride, came back in, told a technician to put in on a lift. Found out my rear tires where scalloped. All I needed was rear tires, shocks where ok, and they did the differential service for me. I am so glad to have Dave's. I tell everyone I know and all my co-workers to go to Dave's. They even have taxi coupons for someone that gives you a ride to drop off the car or for you to pick it up. How cool is that!

WATCH OUT!! – As mechanics these guys might be OK, but really watch out for their pricing. For me they charged 100$ (2hrs) for an initial diagnosis. That would be OK if I had not told them exactly what was wrong with the car to begin with when I dropped it off. So they spent 2 hrs finding out what I told them for free. On top of that, they charge me with a "Level 1 drivability test and inspection" which is 3hrs or 150$. So I am out 250$ before any real work is done. They find two problems (one of which was dubious). Both of those apparently took 4hrs each, or 400$ in labor to fix. One of those was to change a fuel filter which should not take a good mechanic 4 hours. I leave one star since there is actually a chance that my car is actually fixed, which would be nice. Watch out!

PS, I strongly suspect many/most of these 5star reviews are fake. Anyone who actually went there would mention the price, even if they are "in love with Dave's" or whatever.

To be honest I am not sure this is a Dave's customer. We have scoured our invoices and can not find anyone that matches this service description for the last three months or this name in our data base. The hours he claims vs the dollar amounts don't match at all. He posted this review on two other sites including Yelp. I sent him a message through yelp, I invited him to discuss his service experience, pointed out the math errors and offered his money back if he felt the services charged for where not appropriate or fair. No response. If this is a real customer I openly invite him to contact me to discuss this. Our goal is to provide an awesome service experience and to provide the longest warranty in Austin. We do not want anyones money who does not feel they got what they paid for.-Dave

AMAZING!! – About two weeks ago, i went to Dave's to get my state inspection and oil changed. When i asked how long it would take to do everything, my estimate was an hour. i got a phone call in about half that time, with it finished. Very reasonably priced. Everyone at Dave's was friendly, and supportive and explanitory of what needed to be done. I have no idea how cars work, nor when to get the oil changed. I'm so glad i took my car to Dave's. i will DEFINATELY be back! Thanks Dave's!

Almost got rip off – Went there to get my check engine light off, I was told that it was my gas cap. They told me that i needed a diagnostic of $99 I came out with and estimated $1500 in repairs. Guess what?? I went somewhere else, they change my gas cap, and I passed the State Inspection.

They even said that I needed to change my O2 sensor for $400, but my State Inspection said that my O2 Sensor was fine. They just tried to rip me off.

Don't go there!!

After reviewing her invoice and diagnostic sheet and courtesy inspection as well as discussing her visit with my service advisers and tech, I feel we delivered honest and correct evaluations and estimates. I am not sure how another place was able to pass her inspection. The machine will not pass a vehicle that has codes and monitors not set. She had 3 codes in her system. 2 pertaining to evaporative system leaks and 1 for a bank 1 sensor 1 o2 sensor voltage. Even if they cleared the codes it takes a couple of days driving to get the monitors to set to ready. This vehicle has almost 100k miles.The rest of the estimate was for needed repairs and maintenance we identified with our courtesy inspection.

Social humans, and real nice – There are a lot of things I love about this place! First off, the people who work there, I have yet to meet someone nasty or not smiling. I believe her name is Michelle, was just amazing. I told her I would come back by about 1, but ended up my friends wanted to take me out for a while longer. She gave me a call to make sure I didn't need a ride back to the shop to get my car.

Also, I love how most of their stuff is online, makes it easy to figure out how to schedule and fit things in. The text message reminders are great. This is a really great use of media and technology for their business.

Honest, Prompt, Excellent – I have been using Dave's for years and I just want to rave about their amazing service. Todd especially, is wonderful. My car recently hit 90K miles and has been vibrating when braking on a big hill, plus I wanted to see how it was doing, what I might need to get done in the coming months, etc. Normally walking into a shop and saying "tell me what I need done" is carte blanche to take royal advantage of you. Not at Dave's. They did a very thorough inspection, found I needed my brake fluid flushed (they show you the test strip) but that my pads and rotors were great, that I should pay attention to the fluttering, and they'd check it out at my next oil change. Additionally, my power steering fluid needed flushed. Otherwise, they declared the car in great shape. In half the time they quoted me, my car was done and ready to roll. And, since I refer people to them all the time, I had referral credit on my account. My "Big 90,000 Mile Check-Up" final cost? -$22 Yup, I still have a credit on my account and spent nothing out of pocket. I have a good hairdresser and a good mechanic. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Excellent Customer Care – I live in Dallas and was on vacation in Austin last August. The transmission went out on my Honda and Dave's installed a rebuilt one. There is a 12 month/12,000 mile nationwide warranty and a 24 month/24,000 mile local warranty. Last week, the transmission started acting up on me. I was in the Dallas area. For whatever reason the nationwide Napa warranty wasn't going to cover my problem. The manager at Dave's stepped up to the plate and assured me that they would back their work, even if the Napa warranty wouldn't. They paid to have my vehicle towed to an independent transmission shop in Dallas and paid them to do the work. The people that I dealt with were extremely friendly, understanding and helpful. It is very refreshing to know that there is a place that actually works hard to make things right and backs up their work with more than words. That place is Dave's Automotive.
