Editorial Review for Maxim Prime Restaurant – by Jonathan Baker
The Scene
Maxim Prime fools you in so many ways. With its namesake magazine at the helm, this should be meat-market-central, with masculinity bubbling in every facet. Instead the stylish, (dare I say sophisticated?) setting in the Glenn hotel flaunts multiple floors of modern decor and wall projectors--giving off a surprisingly artistic, complex vibe.
The Food
Branching away from traditionally over-bloated steakhouse menus, Maxim Prime's lineup is surprisingly light. Refreshing tuna crudo comes on a bed of sugar cane and tastes like the raw fish spent hours soaking in a mojito. The frois gras PBJ is a two-bite monster of expected decadence. Despite the allure of sushi and crustaceans, meat is the way to go here. Skip the French renditions and fancy sauces and opt to split one of the more masculine steaks for two. If you save room for dessert, the endearing berry cobbler in a mason jar gives the dinner a finish on the light side.
Hits: The staff is bubbly and attractive, adding a sense of lust to the environment.
Misses: Avoid the over-priced cheesy-themed cocktails and opt instead for a glass of your favorite red.

Maxim Prime is a nice trendy spot to have a few drinks and grab an appetizer. It is NOT a place to go if you are actually hungry or just looking for good food. My family went there on Friday and were impressed with the upbeat music and interesting designs in the restaurant. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. The problem came when the food came out. Each of us ordered something different. I had the surf and turf with steak, crab and potatoes. My wife ordered a different kind of steak, cod, and a side. I love steak and the first bite was great. The second was fatty and so was the third bite. The reoccurring theme with each dish was "lets drown the food in different sauces." The portions are also small by the way. The crab dish amounted to 1 crab leg cut into 4 pieces drowned in a mildly sweet sauce. The bill was about $220 for 4 people, 4 entrees, 3 drinks and tip. For that price I need much better food like at Thrive, New York Prime, Fogo de Chao............
Pros: Great staff with trendy atmosphere
Cons: The food and the price

While my friend (she lives downtown) and I did not eat the food, I must say that the atmosphere of this place was awesome. She had heard about it from a co-worker, and decided to invite me down to stay with her and go this past Saturday. Ladies...this is one of the few places in this city with a real personality. The staff was great and the other people drinking there were dressed nicely (hard to find in Atlanta). You can go there, have a drink with friends, and not have some random guy bothering you. THE VIEW IS THE BEST IN ATLANTA. The door guy asked where we parked when we were leaving. We told him across the street, and he offered to walk us to our car! This is the kind of service that we experienced throughout the night. I will admit though.....the drinks are not the cheapest in the city! And be sure to valet park (we found out too late)....we paid $20 to park in the deck across the street....ouch.
Pros: Great view, safe environment, good looking people (dresscode?)
Cons: parking, wait to get on the roof
