What People Are Saying About Cafe Blue

In Short – Located down a winding path near a yacht club (the restaurant is actually more easily accessible by boat), this Lake Travis-adjacent restaurant promises casual waterfront dining with a few classy perks. The diners on the patio are a mix of khaki-clad boaters and couples out for a romantic evening. A respectable wine list complements menu favorites, including sesame-encrusted calamari, 12-ounce ribeye with creamy mashed potatoes, spicy jerk chicken and snapper Louisianne topped with crawfish. Save room for the molten chocolate cake topped with ice cream. –

Good food. Pricy. Hot.

The food was good, but not great. Certainly not good enough to justify the prices.
The two members of our party who got the Mahi Mahi ended up getting sick that night. Not full blown food poisoning. But stomach aches, diarrhea, etc.
It's all outdoor seating, which is fine. Just know that people will be smoking around you, so if you don't like that, go somewhere else. Also, if it's hot outside, it will be hot here. When the sun is high in the sky, you are in the shade. But when it starts lowering towards the horizon, the sun beats in there hard and it also reflects off the lake making it hot and bright. Once the sun goes down, it's fine.

MUST READ!!!!
I really hope the owner/manager reads this because this is coming from an experienced restaurant manager, now business owner.
I want to Cafe Blue by the way of a Living Socail coupon and me my wife and daughter decided to use this on a beautiful friday afternoon. This review is in no way directed to our waitress at CafeBlue she was awesome, prompt, polite and everything come out perfect. On to the food. The food and drinks were great, the coconut shrimp VERY good and my red fish was great, as was the stuffed shrimp.
NOW ON TO THE UGLY! !
We received our bill and there were 2 thing that were very disturbing. First off, they added gratuit to our bill and there were only 2 adults and a child dining. Tacky!
Second, they not only added gratuity, they added it to the entire amount of the bill minus the coupon. This is unheard of! I complained and infomed our waittress that I would have easliy left a 30 tip on for the bill but was shocked to find out they they do this for all "Groupon type" coupons. What they are saying is that there daily deal folks are cheap, BS if you ask me. To be honest, it ticked me off! Tacky X 2
After complaining, the manager took the amount off so I could tip more? I don't this so. The botton line: IF your using a Daily Deal coupon at Cafe Blue BE PREPARED, they will Add gratuity on your tab for the full bill amount even if your dining with you and yours. Did I just type that, I still can't belive it!
Are you listening Cafe Blue restarurant owner/manager! This is a HORRIBLE Business practice and would never consider purchasing another related offer from your establishment.
I had a really hard time not leaving this place only 1 star but our waitress was great and the food was great. These stars go to both of them, the restaurant manager gets a negative 5.
Horrible Service, Great Food
by LAB in Austin at Citysearch
We went to Cafe Blue tonight expecting a nice, casual dinner. Upon arriving, we couldn't figure out where the restaurant actually was, due to poor signage. After calling the cafe and receiving some unhelpful directions, we managed to find the pathway to get to there. We were surprised to see that every table was in the sunlight. We asked to move to a more shaded area (as soon as one became available), and the waitress told us that all the tables had sun but that the sun would go down in 20 minutes. This was almost 2 hours before sunset. Make sure you wear sunscreen and have sunglasses if you do go.
I do have to say that the food was delicious, albeit way over priced (a small piece of French bread was $4!). However, it took well over an hour to receive it. In the meantime, we were completely ignored and had to track down a waiter to refill our water. This after having to beg for our menus and silverware from the server. All around, I would never go back to this place, even though I loved the food. The service was just too bad.
Also, people with motion sickness should be aware the the only road to the restaurant is a long and winding one.
- Pros: Great Food
- Cons: Horrible service, no shaded tables
Great Break on the Lake
by RNY at Citysearch
We had a party of four and tried their coconut shrimp, their crab stuffed shrimp and the red snapper-every one was outstanding! The venicular ride up and down reminded us of Capri. Our waiter was attentive and the atmosphere was comfortable. This is one of the best restaurants in the Austin area.
- Pros: The food was outstanding!
- Cons: The lake is low

A group of us went to Cafe Blue after spending a fun day on the lake. We were hungry! The food and the service at Cafe Blue were both great...it was an excellent way to continue the fun we'd had all day.
- Pros: Yummy drinks
