What People Are Saying About Parkside

In Short – Bare bones in layout and design, this establishment conveys a classic yet contemporary environment not commonly found on Austin's famous party strip. White table cloths, simple lines and areas of exposed brick set the stage for a dining experience both rough and refined. Menus feature flavorful dishes such as salmon, steak and chicken, while offering tongue-in-cheek diversions that include a variety of raw oysters, sliders, steak tartar and macaroni and cheese.
Awesome Austin!
by RockiesRockStar
I was in Austin on business last week and all my co-workers were talking
about this restaurant called Parkside. We figured we ought try it out and I
am so glad we did! Their wet bar is fabulous and has drinks that range from
an ideal after work cocktail to an unbelievable wine/meal combination. I
don't eat red meat so I was thrilled to see the extensive salad menu that
accompanies an out of this world seafood selection! I had the grilled
snapper and parmesan asparagus with an unbeatable glass of white bordeaux.
One of my friends had the marrow bones and loved them! She wouldn't even
share! After the amazing dinner that we had there was no room to even look
at desserts-- scared that we wouldn't be able to resist. Luckily, our
server was extremely kind and doting. It just topped off the whole
experience. So, if you are ever in Austin-- even for one night-- go to
Parkside. I know I will be back!
Freezerburn calamari, spoiled meat cheeseburger
by squeezeon
A good friend wanted to go to dinner as we were both returning to North Austin from business. He mentioned Parkside restaurant, so I agreed although I never had been there.
Nice waitress, polite. I ordered the calamari and a cheeseburger with fries. My friend ordered a chicken dinner with potatoes that were a little undercooked.
To make my point, the calamari had an odd taste. I asked my friend to taste it, and he is a server at a high end restaurant, so he immediately tasted something weird. It was freezer burn on the calamari. The server came back, and I told her I did not care for the calamari.
She notifed the manager, who probably needs to learn something about this business. He came and asked me if the waitress got the wrong order. I quietly, and politely told him she got the correct order, but the calamari had freezer burn. I even asked him if he wanted to taste it. He did not. He then asked if he could offer another appetizer but I politely told him no. I thought he was going to take the calamari off the bill. I then get the cheeseburger, which by the way we received everything right around an hour of time. Keep in mind there were max maybe 15 total people in the restaurant, as it was very slow on a Wednesday.
Have you ever had ground beef in a refrigerator where it starts getting grey on the outside but the inside is halfway still ok? Uh huh, you know what that tastes like right? You got it. Spoiled meat is very gross. I left it on the plate and the server picked it up. I asked my friend to smell it, and he immediately knew the smell. When my friend and I left, as we went back to the car we talked so much that I forgot to look at the bill I paid for. These shameful, disgraceful people didnt take anything off the bill. I had to pay for freezer burn calamari and spoiled beef on the cheeseburger. Eat at your own risk, this place I will never go back to.
- Pros: none
- Cons: too many for one night
Pleasurable Experience
by ZailSolomon
My hotel concierge referred me to Parkside this past week. I can't say enough what pleasurable experience my guests and I had. The old school atmosphere, the food and the service all combine to make this place the real deal. Our waiter's name was Butch and was about as good as they get. His service was warm, personable and very professional. If you're to have dinner at Parkside, skip lunch. We had an appetizer platter of shrimp, mussels and crab fritters that was astounding. My steak was juicy and delicious. Next time I'm in Austin, I will definitely return to Parkside.
Pros: These folks know what they are doing. PD:Oyster platter
Cons: Small drinks :-(
Zai Solomon.
- Pros: Good Service
- Cons: on 6ht street, valet was available
The Details on Parkside
When to Go:
If you're not sure that Sixth Street is your scene, try the brunch promising some "hair of the dog" on weekend mornings and early afternoons.
Look Good:
Food descriptions on the menu are excessively cryptic. You may have to lean on your waiter to get a better idea of what's available.
Know Before You Go:
Although sized like tiny tapas plates, the entrees are priced like very upscale dinners. Any sides, sold a la carte, add to the price.
Where to Sit:
If it's available and the street below hasn't gotten too loud, opt to sit outside on the upstairs deck overlooking Sixth Street.
