Editorial Review for Parkside Austin – by Joshua Hinsdale
In Short
Bare bones in layout and design, this establishment conveys a classic yet contemporary environment not commonly found on Austin's famous party strip. White table cloths, simple lines and areas of exposed brick set the stage for a dining experience both rough and refined. Menus feature flavorful dishes such as salmon, steak and chicken, while offering tongue-in-cheek diversions that include a variety of raw oysters, sliders, steak tartar and macaroni and cheese.

Insider Tips
When to GoIf you're not sure that Sixth Street is your scene, try the brunch promising some "hair of the dog" on weekend mornings and early afternoons.
Look GoodFood descriptions on the menu are excessively cryptic. You may have to lean on your waiter to get a better idea of what's available.
Know Before You GoAlthough sized like tiny tapas plates, the entrees are priced like very upscale dinners. Any sides, sold a la carte, add to the price.
Where to SitIf it's available and the street below hasn't gotten too loud, opt to sit outside on the upstairs deck overlooking Sixth Street.

Checked this place out with my wife and another couple and couldn't have been more disappointed. The service staff was rude, even arguing with someone at my table about a request for warm saki. Evidentally, the place considers themselves too high class for warm saki. The portions were comically small for the price. I see the comments regarding Olive Garden and all you can eat and such and those are just silly. I mean to insult folks who expect a portion size comensurate with the price being charged by alluding to them being pigish are obviously the words of a concerned proprietor or employee or a professional trainer. If those comments are saying that you need to appreciate small portions for high prices in order to "get it", then I don't want to get it. Also, don't visit if you have any other plans that day/evening as the waitstaff is in no hurry to get anything done (including bring your drinks/food) We waited for 40 minutes between stating that we were ready to go and actually receiving a check. If anyone is thinking of a visit, think again. There are plenty of upscale places to dine in Austin (not sure how being located on 6th makes you upscale) and those places will provide what you pay for with friendly service and won't try to make customers feel inadequate through either their menu or actions. I miss McKluskey's!
Pros: Not McDonalds
Cons: Poor Service, High Prices, Small Portions

So, my wife and I both have jobs. So we got out to eat. A lot. We like nice food. Thing about nice food: it's expensive, compared to flap-jacks or ramen noodles. Two ways you see this "expensive" thing: 1) portion size; and 2) price. Parkside is nice food, and one of the best restaurants for nice food in Austin. The food is edgy. The chef, he's always thinking of something new. Some of it you won't like. Marrow bones are not my thing. But salmon and peaches, fries, chicken sammy, coriander pork ribs, the pork belly sammy, the white pate and any damn thing they put on the dessert menu is better than the best three things at other very good restaurants in town. And they have an ever-changing selection of oysters with excellent guidance from the super-friendly staff. The corn chowder is not to be missed. If you want an endless bowl of pasta, or a salad the size of a bowling ball, or a 1/2 lb. burger, go to the Olive Garden, or go to one of the great greasy burger joints in town. I love that Olive Garden salad, and I'm drooling for a Hilbert's or a Fran's burger in a bad way, just thinking about it. But if you're prepared to spend $100 + for two and try several different and unique servings of really good food, Parkside is a solid play. Yeah, it's located on sixth street. East Side Cafe is on the east side. It's not a big deal. Valet, baby. You gotta do it anyway, downtown. And sit in a booth away from the bar: not so loud there. One last thing. Parkside does have one of the best Wednesday happy hours in town: half-priced prosecco and oysters.
Pros: Crazy good chow, service, dessert
Cons: Not enough all-you-can eat items
