Austin >Sunstone Yoga Northwest Austin
Hot yoga and I haven't always respected each other, but Sunstone is slowly changing that. They offer classes dictated by different elements -- Fire, Water, Earth, Metal and Wood -- each of which have a different class purpose: Vitality, alignment, stamina, etc. I've only tried a few, but love the "Earth" classes: Postures here are designed to tone as well as stretch.
Sunstone is Great.
I started doing Yoga at Sunstone about 6 months ago. I'd never done Yoga before, but have done over 100 Sunstone classes now.
It is by no means easy...but the results have been great.
I've lost over 20 pounds...without any positive changes to my diet. I still eat bread, Mexican and drink, etc. I could probably have lost 40lbs if I watched what I eat. My wife likes my flatter belly.
I haven't been sick or had any allergy problems in the past six months (I used to have the Austin allergies...bad...but haven't had a sniffle since starting yoga. I attribute this to the sweating, detox, and Rabbit pose. )
I'm a lot stronger and generally feel better and calmer.
But here is the real test...
I just turned 40 and went snow skiing. I was able to ski HARD...all day...for three consecutive days at 10,000 feet + altitude. I barely got tired or winded, and I didn't get sore at all. And my balance was in an entirely different stratosphere than it used to be.
Back when I was 25, I would go skiing and huff and puff and be exhausted the whole trip. I'm convinced by practicing Yoga at Sunstone, I'm in FAR BETTER shape at 40 than I was in my twenties.
All the instructors are great as well. It is a very welcoming place with both the instructors and the other students. There are lots of beginners, so if you want to try Yoga in a non-intimidating atmosphere...you should give it a try. Just look at the schedule, pick a class, and show up 15 minutes before. (be sure to read pre-class instructions)
BTW, the price is right too. To get Sunstone's variety of classes elsewhere...I'd have to join two studios and pay more than twice as much. It's very affordable IMO."

"Weight loss, cellulite loss, lower stress, improved mental perspective and a healthier lifestyle are all benefits I've gained coming to Sunstone Yoga. At over 110 classes now, I can truly say that I definitely feel it in my practice when I've had a hard day at work, a confrontation with a special someone, or just an extended period of low quality sleep. This form of working out is absolutely the best program to keep me in tune with my body, and my mind and how my whole system is affected by them. Thank you! Thank you! "
Every single instructor has just been absolutely wonderful..
Form the sunstone site:
I have been practicing at Sunstone Yoga for about 4 months. When I first started, I had never done any kind of organized exercise program or any type of yoga. Luckily I found Sunstone Yoga's website and decided to try the 10 days for $10.00. As it turns out, this has been the best $10.00 I have ever spent in my life. I tried yoga because I love to scuba dive and I thought it would help me with my breathing: learning to control my breath would mean more time underwater. Everything has turned out so much better than I ever expected.
First, every single instructor has just been absolutely wonderful. Second, and most unexpected, is the amount of weight I have lost without even changing my diet. When I started I weighed 198lbs. 60 classes later I weigh 173lbs. That's 25lbs - what a nice surprise. I would encourage anyone who is thinking of trying Sunstone Yoga to go ahead and do it, because you never know; it could also be your best $10.00 investment ever. I have never felt so good about everything and had so much energy during the day.
I would like to thank all of the instructors for the great job they do by making it a very enjoyable place to practice. You have all made a very big difference in my life. Good luck to all who try.
A great much needed yoga studio in Northwest Austin. My fellow Northwest Austinites- we finally have a fabulous yoga studio in our neighborhood. I have been waiting for this place to open for months and they finally opened their doors last week. Let me just say it was well worth the wait. This place is incredible. You walk inside and it feels like you are in a spa in Hawaii. I took the Metal class yesterday with Michael - wow. They also have really cute HardTail yoga clothes (hard to find anywhere else in town). I am totally sold on the place.
Beautiful New Yoga Studio - and so clean!. I stumbled upon Sunstone Yoga just last week. Let me begin by saying the place is beautiful and so clean you could eat off the floors. The owner and instructors are so friendly and welcoming which was really important for me as a yoga newbie. I did the Fire class (hot yoga) first and it was awesome. The next day I tried the Earth class and it was completely different, but equally as awesome. They have something like 5 different classes under 1 roof. I suggest you check this place out before the word gets out and it gets too crowded.
Best Yoga in TOwn. Sunstone Yoga, is the most welcoming yoga studio I have ever been to. It is awesome for the advanced yogi to the very beginner practitioner. I would highly recomment this studio to anyone intrerested in yoga.
Focused positive energy.
My body physically craves yoga: the sweat, the release and the wonderful feeling of accomplishment at the end of class. I have come to a place now where my mind and spirit crave it as well; to bring in and share positive energy with my classmates, to be calm, focused, and to give to others what I learn in class.
