Tips for Tim's Tree Service

March 06, 2013

I also used this company with the same results. Work not completed and me stupidly giving him money and not returning to pick up the branches that were all over my front yard. Numerous calls for a week and lot's of lies and excuses but not completment of the job. What I wanted to add was that I found out that both his father and his son have tree trimming business as well. I understand his father's is in south Austin and very well respected; which is probably why he keeps his on the northwest side! His son actually showed up at my house to pick up some of the tools that his father had borrowed from him and left there. I talked to him a bit about it and he said he doesn't understand his father and his ways but that he is distancing himself from him. I told him that sounded like a good move. Didn't give him the tools though. Told him to get his father to come get them when he picked up the limbs which of course never happened. Had to pay someone else to finish up the job. Lesson I learned is to never never be pressured into giving anyone any money until the job is entirely finished to my satisfaction.

CON ARTIST OPERATING UNDER NEW NAME. Tim's Tree Service is operating under a new name in Northwest Hills AUSTIN OAKS TREE SERVICE. This is the same group of thieves that have ripped off so many people in Northwest Hills. They took my money and would not return to finish the work they started. Numerous telephone calls resulted in one lie after another. Finally had to contract with a different company to finish the job. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH TIM'S TREE SERVICE OR AUSTIN OAKS. THEY ARE DISHONEST AND WILL CHEAT YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY.

NOW "Hill Country Tree Trimming" BEWARE!!!. BEWARE!!! Tim Pruet is at it again NW Hills, this time operating as Hill Country Tree Trimming. Same scam, same neighborhood, using his trainee "Roland" to pitch the high pressure, cash up front, take it in the rear service. When I called out Roland on the scam, he swore they were not related and said "Tim did not have a phone #" Tim quickly followed up with a call... Wanting to fight it out. KVUE video on last scam "Tim's Tree Service" is funny, check it out.

What a Dishonest Company!. If I could give them zero stars I would. I can't believe I'm reading these recent reviews because he tried to rip me off over a year ago when my wife and I moved into our first home together. I got the BBB involved and KVUE news did a piece on my situation.

In my case, his guys didn't finish the work, left the trimmers in the tree, and left a huge pile of branches and bamboo in our yard after I paid cash upfront (my dumb move...never again). When I tried reaching Tim, his number was disconnected. When the KVUE piece aired, what do you know, my phone starts lighting up like a Christmas tree. It's Tim leaving messages about how sorry he is, and how his crews were short-handed, and how he'll make it right. Well, he eventually made it right, but now that I'm reading the same reviews in March of 2011, it is clear that this guy is a straight-up crook. Amazing he hasn't been arrested.

STAY AWAY!

avoid this group at all costs. High pressure sales at your door. The price was too high for what they did and the limbs are still in my yard 10 days later. I have called numerous times and have been told that they were coming that day. If you use them, hold payment until the trimmed limbs have been picked up, if they ever are.

Is there NO legal recourse?. Is there no way to stop these fraudulent practices?

My husband and I were similarly strong armed by Tim's door to door approach. He represented himself as an arborist, which he is NOT. He took our check, cashed it within minutes, but never rendered ANY service, other than to leave one of his men sitting in a tree while he went to the bank. When we tried to cancel his services that same day, he threatened legal action. His actions are in direct violation of Texas Business and Commerce Code Ann Sec. 39.001, which states that a salesperson must provide a contract or cancellation form and inform you that you have three days to cancel for a refund.

Tim essentially stole $600.00 from us without providing any service and we are investigating legal options. Not only is the quality of his work unacceptable, his business practices seem to be in violation of the law. Any advice from those similarly scammed would be appreciated.

A true scam, DO NOT USE. Tim was anxious to get his money, in cash and up front. He did an extremely poor job and left the debris for us to clean up at our expense. DO NOT USE!! A complete scam artist who does a poor job and leaves his trash behind for you to deal with. The agreement was that he would haul off all trash which he did not do. Our insurance agent wanted the limbs trimmed back from the roof which we contracted Tim to do. Tim did not do enough trimming. He did a very quick, ineffective, trashy job.

SCAM - Do not pay until job completed!. I should have known better than to trust an offer from a door-to-door solicitor, but Tim is smooth and persistent. He cited several neighbors as previous clients (more on that later) and offered a good (but not TOO good to be true) price for removing ball moss, dead limbs and trimming suckers from our oaks. He arrived early the next day with a crew of 3 and his brother, another smarmy character. The crew got busy and worked hard for several hours doing a decent job. Around noon Tim's brother Matt started asking about getting paid. I told him that I had a check already made out to "Tim's Tree Service" and he said "No, make it out to Tim personally". That should have triggered a red flag alarm in my head, but because the crew was close to finishing I let it slide. During this time Tim also approached my neighbor and convinced him to have some trimming done that same day. Two of the crew left my yard to start in the neighbor's, and Tim's brother started pressing hard for the check. After inspecting the work that had been done (a decent but not perfect job) I relented and handed over the check. You could hear the wind whistle as he jumped into his car and sped to the bank, about the same time as the last worker left to help next door. The resulting brush piles left in the street in front of my house were about 15 feet long and 4 feet high. When I called Tim that evening (the workers had already left) he said that a "cleanup crew" would be by the next day to pick up the brush. Well, the next day nobody came and the day after it snowed. On Friday I called again and was told by Tim that someone would be out that afternoon - nobody showed. Today (Saturday) I called again and got the same story, so I finally went online to check out Citysearch and Angie's List - wish I had done that up front! These guys are scam artists, and I was lucky to have any work done at all. I spent part of yesterday and all day today cleaning up their mess, and my poor neighbor (an older man) still has piles of branches in his yard. Several other neighbors stopped by in passing and told me of similar problems they had with Tim's in the past - sure wish they had spoken up sooner! Also beware that they operate using an alias of AMERICAN TREE SERVICE. The morals of this story: 1) Don't do business with solicitors! 2) Check out any service online before using them! 3) NEVER PAY A DIME until the job is COMPLETELY DONE!

Grifters at Best. Tim’s tree service Tim and his brother are sham artist in my opinion. Tim showed up at my house and offered to trim a few trees. I showed him a large old live oak in my yard that had not been professionally trimmed in years. He offered to do a complete canopy lift, remove the ball moss trim all the new growth off large branches, clean the area and haul off all the brush. Because we have oak wilt in few areas of our neighborhood and I asked him to properly seal all cuts and he agreed.

He offered to the job for a price of $200 and asked for a payment of $150 up front and $50 when the job was complete. I told him I would pay when the job was complete. He started the job and after a few hours began to call and repeatedly asked for payment during the job. I repeatedly told him and his brother I would pay when the job was complete. When it started to get dark they again asked for payment. I walked around to inspect the job only to find tree limbs covering my back yard, the street and my neighbor’s yard. Additionally, they hadn’t started to seal the cut branches. I told his brother I would pay in the morning when I could inspect the work since it didn’t appear they could complete the job before dark. He aggressively told me we could use a spot light to inspect the tree, but he was going to get paid “tonight”. I asked him why he we couldn’t inspect the job in the morning and he again in an attempt to intimidate said he was going to get his money “tonight”. The situation went down-hill at that point and I asked him to leave the property or I would call the police. Tim showed up several minutes later and apologized for his brother’s actions. I agreed to let them finish the job., but they did not seal the branches that were cut. I ended up paying them because at that point I wanted them gone. I have hired many vendors to do work with me over many years and only on rare occasion have i ever come across folks like this. Tim’s tree service Tim and his brother are sham artist in my opinion. My ADVICE – DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY OR ANY COMPANY TIM WITH TIM’S TREE COMPANY OWNS.
