Deeelish! Amazing cupcake flavors that rotate daily, and delightful vegan and gluten free options too! My favorite is the confetti cake with buttercream frosting!

In addition to great cupcakes, Sugar mamas makes delicious custom cakes, pies, & lemon bars. My favorite flavors are the red velvet and the carrot cake!

Two words: The Elvis. It's banana-flavored cake (which may be offputting to some, but definitely not to me), topped with peanut butter buttercream (!). That's my favorite, but Olivia - the owner - makes a ton of other whimsical flavors.
Love stopping here on my way home from work. Friendly service and I agree that the Elvis is the BEST!
Absolutely HORRIBLE!.
We will NEVER use Sugar Mama's Bakeshop again!
Two of our preschool children had a 12:30 p.m. birthday party. We had ordered a chocolate cake with a giraffe and two other zoo animals all wearing shoes. Sugar Mama's promised to have the birthday cake ready by 11 a.m.
When we arrived at 11 a.m., they had not even begun to put icing on the cake. At this point, we were promised that the cake would really be ready at 1 p.m.! This meant that the kids' father ended up having to miss quite a bit of a birthday party that was only 1.5 hours long to begin with. Or, someone would have to explain to two preschoolers why the birthday cake that they had planned for about a month was not going to be at the birthday party.
But, the story actually gets even worse... When my husband arrived a little after 1 p.m, the cake was STILL not done. There was only one animal on the cake and they were still putting the kids' names on it. So, he had to either take the cake unfinished or risk not having a birthday cake at all at this birthday party. (Of course, Sugar Mama's did not offer to deliver the cake to the party. Instead, the children's father would just have to miss a big chunk of their birthday party.)
Then, after all of that, the flavor of the cake was good (although one of the kids said that he didn't like it), but nothing outstanding. This was an EXTREMELY disappointing situation. We would have been much happier with a much cheaper cake from just about anywhere else.
Creative, Cute, Mouthwatering!. These are soooo good. A perfect amount of frosting, creative flavors, cute presentation...I am a huge fan!
Delicious!!.
I am a cupcake FANATIC! When Sprinkles opened up in my hometown of Dallas several years ago, I made my family get them for me when I came into town. Good cupcakes, but not nearly as incredible as Sugar Mama's.
First of all, every single flavor I have ever tried has been out of this world! I particularly love the Hemingway as the lime flavor is so right on and perfect. My husband's favorite is the Black and Tan, and I have to agree it's a tasty option.
The sizes of the cupcakes are perfect. Not too big so you feel glutenous eating the whole thing, but not too small that you can't share a bite.
I have also tried their lemon bars, which are outstanding. Often lemon bars can be too sweet, but these are perfect slices of lemon heaven.
The people who run this place and work in the shop are so incredibly nice. We have one of the original cupcake boxes that we bring in to be environmental and not waste packaging. They always comment on it and seem excited that we have been such long standing customers.
My friend knows the owners and has said many times how committed they are to quality ingredients and developing great recipes on their own. This is important to me and part of why their cupcakes are my favorite in town. I've tried all the other places only to be disappointed that they did not live up to my expectations.
Anyone who asks me where to get cupcakes is always sent to Sugar Mama's. Where else can you go to get original flavors and incredibly moist yummy cupcakes!?
from behind the scenes.
I worked here for about 6 months and I still love this place. Olivia and Steve are dedicated owners that don't compromise their ingredients or process. I love taking new people there. they simply put other shops to shame.
and yes, I have tried every cupcake and they are all great. personally, the black and tan is my favorite, but the james brown is a contender also. The iced sugar cookies always seem to sell out first (they are homemade versions of the ones we grew up with in the grocery stores) and they even make 'pupcakes' - healthy little cakes for dogs. and yes, i have tried those also. they're still good :)
Yuuummmy!. I have one word...YUM! There are several to choose from depending on the day. This is one local vendor that is worth supporting!
Tasty cupcakes made with real ingredients. I can't say enough about this place, my husband and I have tried several different flavors, and while a few stand out, all were great. Depending on the flavor, the cake ranges from airy to more dense, but all are very moist. The icings are all made with real cream and butter, and you can taste it. I had them make some specially decorated cupcakes for a baby shower, they did a wonderful job and all the ladies at the shower loved these cupcakes. I got many requests for the name of the bakery that made them! The staff is very friendly, and the cupcakes are standard size, so they're perfect for a dessert or snack (no monster cupcakes here). They also have some bars and cookies, as well as some vegan cupcakes, none of which I've tried but they always look very enticing. I highly recommend this place!
can't stop the craving. I live down the street from Sugar Mama's and drive past daily, which is a terrible problem for my health. It is very difficult to not stop everyday as their cupcakes are so damn delicious! I've had the key lime pie and the red velvet cake (I hope to break out of my routine soon), both of which are super moist and fresh. Their cream cheese icing is a perfect balance of sweetness and tangyness. It's almost like a miniature fresh cheescake on top of the cupcake! I am so happy they came to the neighborhood!
This South Austin bakeshop run by a local couple spreads the love--one cupcake at a time..
In Short
Under the neon cupcake, this heavenly scented bakery has a rotating menu of cupcakes including seasonal treats and the playfully named Elvis (banana and PB topped with gold sprinkles) and the Black and Tan (Guinness cupcake topped with Irish cream icing). Daily offerings include red velvet, lemon, chocolate, coconut and vanilla cupcakes with plenty of fresh buttercream icing. And since it's Austin and we care about these kinds of things, expect locally-sourced and preservative-free ingredients including cage-free eggs, post-consumer packaging and a wind-powered shop. The bakery also sells cookies and bars in addition to mini bundt cakes. Whet your whistle with hot tea or coffee, milk or Boylan sodas.
