My husband and I recently had our wedding at the Palm Door. We wanted something casual, fun and non-traditional.
Not only did we get exactly what we wanted in our reception, but the staff went out of the way to help us plan and prepare everything. The caterers did an amazing job with the menu ideas we threw at them, and graciously made accomodations for a few guests with dietary restrictions.
Joy was so great to work with in planning everything. She thought of things that we had completely overlooked and took care of tons of annoying details that would have stressed us out immensely.
Because of the work and positivity of the staff, we had a great time at the reception and actually were quite relaxed. This is an amazing, talented group of people to have for a wedding!

Palm Door is Better than Mary Poppins

Mary is practically perfect in every way, but Palm Door was pretty much just perfect. I booked Palm Door for a friend’s wedding and it couldn’t have been a better choice. I definitely recommend Palm Door for any wedding or event.
First, the location is ideal. Palm Door is a downtown gem. It’s centrally located, and once the wedding was over, we just moved the party elsewhere! While PD does not have its own parking lot, the usual downtown street and garage parking are easily accessible. And in terms of price, Palm Door is a steal in this area.
Second, the layout and décor allow for endless possibilities in customizing the space for your event. The simple white walls and stained wood floors will work with any color scheme, and the open floor plan gives you tons of options for setting up the room. High ceilings and lots of windows allow for tons of natural light during the day and keep the space feeling airy and open, even with a full house. The bar definitely catches the eye and adds character to the main room. And the balcony overlooking Waller Creek, and running the entire length of the building, is another wonderful outdoor bonus space. Plus, the lounge furniture they have to offer gives you even more possibilities for creating unique and inviting areas for your guests.
And finally, the venue coordinator Sara was beyond helpful. She was very friendly, offered several ideas and shared experiences when I came to plan the layout of the room. She was always responsive to my slew of emails with random questions that came up near the wedding date. On the day of the wedding, Sara offered her assistance in getting the tables and décor set up, made sure all our needs were met, and even made sure the candles got lit as I was busy rounding up people for the ceremony to begin. At the end of the night, she helped “direct traffic” to make sure all the items we brought in made it home with us, and she coordinated having some leftover dinner and cake packed up for us to take.
If you’re planning an event, definitely consider Palm Door. Their in-house caterer Pink Avocado was also fantastic. You won’t be disappointed.
- Pros: location, layout, ability to customize space to your taste
- Cons: not one!
modern, open event space

We had our wedding at Palm Door about a month ago.
The space is great for people who want to do some partying. The bar is huge along one entire wall in the main room. There is an even longer deck out back overlooking Waller Creek and a separate gallery space off the main room with a lounge-type feel. The walls are white and the floors and bar are stained wood so the space can easily be tailored towards whatever vibe your event is going for. And the downtown location was the perfect compliment to an urban couple like us.
I was shocked when I saw the Palm Door facility rental rates in comparison to other wedding venues. Palm Door was extremely affordable. Furniture and linens were included in the price too!
The Palm Door staff was friendly and helpful. On the day of our wedding, Sara did everything in her power to make us feel at ease. She coordinated our vendors and set the room up according to floor plans I created (at the very last minute). She is very knowledgeable about event planning and I respected and asked her input on many of my event logistics.
While the building is continually being spruced up, the indoor and outdoor space is not new and has a bit of a weathered look to it. Also, Waller Creek is notoriously traveled by transients so trash can pile up and smells can emanate from it, however the Palm Door staff tries their best to deal with it. The creek was clear and clean the day of our wedding.
If you are looking for an affordable, modern space with a knowledgeable event staff in which to throw a lively event that your guests will be impressed by, call the Palm Door.
- Pros: space is a blank canvas
- Cons: older building
Palm Door

Our organization used Palm Door for its holiday party this year and loved it. The interior is beautifully restored with a gorgeously lit bar, hardwood floors and airy white beams. The main room is spacious - and looked even more charming with garlands of green and white twinkle lights - and the long gallery provides a quieter nook for private conversations. The outside deck overlooking the creek is relaxed and rustic (your smoking guests will never notice they've been ostracized!). Though parking is limited, the downtown location is easily walkable from the major hotels and the Convention Center. We would definitely use Palm Door again!
- Pros: Stylish venue with deck in great downtown location
- Cons: Limited parking
