What you have to love about Mister Tramps is that it's a place where geek trivia and sports viewing elicits roughly the same shouting volume. This is dive bar-ness at its most authentic, people, so you might not expect their food to be that great -- but their brie pizza? Shockingly out of this world.
Great vibe, beers and exceptional service. I was staying at a nearby hotel and come over because of their great beer selection. I was hoping to watch an obscure college football game from my alma matter that was not even division one. I walked in and the place was packed and their was a local bowl game on. I gave up and started to leave figuring I had no chance of getting a tv off the bowl game. The owner notice this and found me my own tv out of the way were I could enjoy the great food, beer and see the game. I was blown away. Great place with a real concern for their customers.
Best Wee Pub i' Texas!.
A current resident of San Antonio, my girlfriend and I make at least one trip to Austin every month just to come here. There is not a better combination of brilliant food, authentic UK atmosphere, friendly (and beautiful) service, and the most amazing owner/founder to be found in the state of Texas. Alfredo and crew have never, ever, let us down on any of our monthly pilgrimmages. The Draft list is a Who's Who of rare and exquisite brews, and every item on the menu will surprise the hell out of you with their complexity of flavors and subtexts of true culinary genius.
So pop on in, flop down at the bar, grab a pint and watch a football or rugby game with your friends. You will never regret that you did.
Citysearch Editorial Review. This joint calls itself a European sports bar, which is true on several counts. Owner Alfredo Cedrone hails from Italy, though he's been in Texas since 1981. The walls are laden with eight flat-screen TVs featuring soccer matches from overseas, horse races from the East Coast and MLB, ESPN, NBA, all going at once (Cedrone admits a propensity towards rugby and European soccer and encourages fans to come out for games). A lengthy menu tries hard to dazzle. Even offerings like pizza get an exotic treatment; the ones topped with brie and fig, and leeks are fan favorites. Toasty sandwiches and salads range from meaty to vegetarian-friendly.
Fun New Place. Lots of beers, and good music playing, but they are still trying to finish the kitchen so they can start frying stuff. The food is good though, but too healthy for me, I need the comfort foods they are promising once the full kitchen is in. Friendly atmosphere from the bartenders and owners who float around chatting with everyone. Cool place, I hope they really take off.
Must Check Out. This place has a great neighborhood feel, the staff are all really friendly and talkative. Really liked the "Brie Pizza", and "Bushwacker" cocktail they gave me a sample of.....but I came for the beers on tap, love the variety. Also pretty cool place to watch and talk about european soccer, definately will be frequenting it once the English Premier League starts up in August..
Great place for happy hour or weekend fun..
Tramps is a locally owned business that doesnt have to follow corporate policy like other restaurants/bars in Austin. They can and are willing to change at a moments notice to meet their customers needs. Its common to see the owners (Alfredo and Amy) walking around and mingling with their guests. I hear rumor that there will be live music in the near future and several new menu items will be added.
The beer selection is great and plentiful. Full bar, great neighborhood feel. This is soon to be one of Austins "must visit" places.
