Situated in the middle of downtown,
Max's is known for their buttermilk fried chicken, southern comfort food, and extensive wine list. Perhaps one of their most popular items on the menu is their chicken and waffles.
More recently, Max's has introduced an all you can eat Brunch buffet, which is a good option for those who want to try a bit of everything.

Max's excels in a high/low mix of wine culture. Upstairs, it's loud and raucous; down below, a sequestered, quiet wine cellar awaits for premium bottle guzzling. The food and wine pairings involved, as many have noted, down-home fare given an upscale twist: Fried chicken and Champagne, or Kobe burgers and Shiraz.

WOW!.
Max's really impressed me with their menu and creativity. The food can best be described as comfort food with a foodie edge. My favorite food there was the fried egg sandwich with pancetta. IT WAS TO DIE FOR and cooked superbly. I went with a few friends and we all ordered a few different things, all were great except the hot dog, which was ultimately a very expensive hot dog. Other than the prices (which are steep all around), I have no negative comments. Great food, great wine, good atmosphere. Good for meeting friends or a first date.

Interesting place.
Really enjoyed our visit recently for dinner. Being someone who has traveled a lot, it was interesting to see several regional dishes that I wanted to try. All of the dishes were delicious, but some of them didn't quite evoke the comfort food they were emulating. In particular the Shrimp and Grits didn't have the juice that a dish like that needs. It was still very edible and tasty, but not quite what I had hoped for in a flavor profile. My wife's Buffalo Sliders were really good, but the rolls were a little much, and a tad burned.
Minor complaints, as we did enjoy the food and wine.
I'd recommend it, and we will go back. Just know that what you are trying may not match your expectation.

Diners indulge in low-brow classics like fried chicken with elegant champagne, or juicy burgers with shiraz. Winos also rejoice that the place also boasts a retail wine store, which means every bottle on hundred-or-so super-inclusive vino list can be taken home for private guzzling. A huge private room downstairs adds to the classy ambiance with its chandelier made of green wine bottles, an echo of the individual bottles that illuminate the bar on the main floor.
