Tips for Tarka Indian Kitchen

Great gluten free and vegetarian options, this place is the more affordable (but just as tasty) version of The Clay Pit. Be sure to snag some of the cilantro-tamarind chutney, it's delicious and goes with everything.

Great Fast Indian&Service is Awesome. I highly recommened Tarka for food, service and prices in South Austin. Great Indian is difficult to come by in the US much less in TX. It definitely curbs your Indian cravings and best to go, as Indian tastes even better there. This place is always busy and quite authentic for Indian fare. It is not easy to find good Indian for such prices also.

Fresh Indian food in a clean, kid-friendly setting.. Opening a second full-service Indian restaurant wasn't what the owners of the Clay Pit had in mind. This, their second restaurant, has a concept: fab food, fast. Customers, mainly South Austinites hungry for Indian food (as this part of town lacks it completely), approach the counter and order. Diners wait for food at booths or tables that complement orange- and red-accented decor. Creating a sandwich with naan and topping salads with chicken that was recently kabob'ed are just two speedy, modern updates to Indian classics. Those mainstays are here, too, from Mulligatawny soup, all conceivable traditional curries, samosas, and Biryanis, or stir-fried Basmati rice. Vegetarians should be very happy here, as will be meat lovers: Lamb, shrimp and chicken all peacefully coexist with many wholly veggie entrees.
