Historic gatehouse sets the dining scene in artful environs.. In Austin's small museum scene, amenities like on-site cafes simply didn't exist at key locations like this one, meaning visitors would have to ignore their rumbling tummies as they viewed the collection. The AMOA at Laguna Gloria's historic gardens and art can be enjoyed knowing that cafe fare from restaurateur Eddie Bernal of the 34th Street Cafe is close at hand. Freshly made salads, sandwiches, baked goods, drinks and deserts are available in a luxurious cafeteria-style setting. While the stone walls of the gatehouse are almost 100 years old, the scene inside is modern and austere, with clean white futuristic chairs and space-age lighting fixtures--a fine companion to the sleek-looking Museum Store next door.
