Citysearch Editorial Review.
Michael and Yoli Amr broke a few hearts in Austin after they created then sold their first restaurant, Gumbo's, in 1995. They are back, if a bit under the radar, with this place, which offers huge, steaming bowls of the eponymous soup and many other Creole dishes made with heart and aplomb. With the accent on seafood and spice, the menu is classically blackened, expertly cooked, tasty and fresh. Innovative menu items like proscuitto-wrapped salmon and cheesecake with Tabasco are here for the adventurous set. Decor inside and the signage outside are each boldly striped, and rich, cayenne-red accents channel am old-school N'awlins aesthetic.
