A Delicious Surprise!. A friend told us about some of the food he had at Lion & Rose so my boyfriend and I gave it a try a few weeks ago. The atmosphere was warm and the section of the restaurant was open but our table still had an intimacy to it so we could have a conversation. In my opinion they really meld a restaurant and pub in to one; there's plenty of televisions and drinking options so you can go there to watch the game but still hold a conversation with the friends and family at your table. And of course I can't forget about the food. It was great! I got Mum's Meatloaf which was rich and filling, the potatoes were great and the Guinness mac and cheese was so different, definitely a new favorite! The service was great too, our waitress was friendly and kept up with our drinks, some of the best service we've had in a while. To finish is all off we got a brownie sundae which was to die for! Best brownie sundae I've ever had, the brownie was soft and warm (not cold and crusty on the outside and super hot on the inside) it had a big scoop of ice cream on time and hot fudge and whipped cream. Hungry yet? I know I am! Lion & Rose has a very nice and relaxing environment, we'll definitely be back soon!

Finally, A Place to Have Fun or Chill...South of the River. A huge soccer fan, I'm a little bias but...

The Lion & Rose is a much needed place to unwind any day of the week. With restaurant, full bar and patio, it's a great place for business lunch, family dinner, happy hour or occasional celebration and to catch the best soccer games being played around the world. Then there's the food - whiskey steak sandwich, ridiculous corn beef and cabbage, the best shepherd's pie and maybe the single best dessert in Austin - their bread pudding a la mode. (Caution to the reckless: let the bread pudding sit five minutes before eating or undoubtedly burn your tongue.) With FREE WiFi, it's become my home and office away from home!

Great food and fun environment!. Went to the Lion and Rose for the first time and I was really impressed. Sat in the bar and had a Smithwick on draft. Great Irish beer you can't find in too many restaurants. My friend and I split the sweet potato fries and they were excellent and the portion was huge. Service was fast and attentive and everybody seemed layed back. I loved the fact that they had a patio. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. It was a great place to go after a day on the river and the location in West Lake is great. I will definately go back.

Citysearch Editorial Review. This fifth location of the popular San Antonio-based British-style pub is all about food, sports and fostering an "Olde" environment in which all of the above can be liberally enjoyed. Decor of dark wood, plush booths and glass partitions etched with the crest of the bar are British all the way. The owners promise that every seat in the house has a view of one of the many plasma or digital TV screens, and that European, national and college games get equal play, but local games do get some preferential treatment. From a rich brunch to fried onion "petals" to a Scotch egg to steak with two sides, the six-page menu offers all aspects of pub grub from overseas to stateside.
