Obviously has a lot of friends!. I'll have to say that the restaurant obviously has a lot of friends. However, their overly glowing reviews have done a disservice to the restaurant because you end up going expecting too much. The food WAS good (can't speak to the "authentic" part as I am not German nor have I been to Germany) and it was well priced. Beyond that, it is poorly located, small, and has little ambiance. The service is incredibly slow (although the staff IS friendly... maybe part of the reason the service is slow!) Our average meal for two people (2 drinks, an appetizer, and an entree each.. not even dessert!) took 2 hours! The waitress had to be flagged down to place our order and it took an exceptionally long time to get it. They are very slow refilling drinks and it usually only happened after we called them over and asked. We began just flagging down whomever we saw first even if it wasn't our waitress. If you are craving German food, I'd recommend it, otherwise, probably not, and I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. Good for the Pflugerville area but that's about their radius. I think it will survive as long as their many friends continue to support them and hang out there but when that dries up, I'd expect to see this spot vacant again.
AWESOME BEER SELECTION!.
GREAT SERVICE! Waiter was able to make recommendations and was very pleasant! VERY AUTHENTIC!
The bar is awesome has a wide selection of beers i havent seen in Austin before but that I have tried in other countries! The food is great! Very tasty, simple menu but delicious! Will definitely come back and recommend!
WHY ARE THEY NOT ON FACEBOOK?
really dissapointing. We also were totally disappointed with the food and service. No sarcasm here, but my boyfriend and I both felt it was the worst $50 we ever spent. We were never offered refills on our drinks. We had to flag the waitress down to order, to pay, any time we needed her. She never came to our table unless we flagged her. The food took a long time to come out and she brought the appetizer, cucumber salad, and entrees at the same time. The food was flavorless. The potatoes were runny mush. But worst of all, we didn't feel like paying customers. We were treated as if they were doing us a favor taking our money.
Review. Good food, good beer, good people
Rammstein would be proud!.
I have been to this restaurant twice so far and loved it on both occasions. The first time I went was with 2 of my siblings and a friend. I tried a little of everyone's dish and they were all great, but I must say I had the best choice. I choose the schnitzel with mushroom sauce. Our waitress was very friendly and answered all of our questions. She made the meal complete with her attitude being so hilarious. I would go back just to see her. The next time was with another friend and I had a stew of some kind although I cannot remember the name right now it was great. We had a different waitress and she was very interesting she could speak English with an American accent perfectly, but was raised in Germany. She made great conversation with us and I saw the waitress from last time I got to speak with her as well. She remembered me from the last time I came in and the conversation we had.
I have not had many German dishes, but what I have had here I do like and I like it a lot. I would advise this restaurant to anyone seeking something different or just something that taste good.
The only bad part I can say is that they offer only pork only, but they explained to me that in the part of Germany that they are from the dishes they prepare are made from pork and when they do order beef not enough people ask for it so it goes bad and they lose money.
Great service and great food!
Pfreakin Awesome in Pflugerville.
My wife and I found this place tonight while trying to get our German food fix. We stumbled onto Nuernberg Brauhaus and it was a pleasant surprise. Being from Southern Indiana where there's a HUGE German population, this is the kind of place I've been longing for...a taste of home. They have Spaten on tap. They have the most wickedly awesome homemade krauts. Homemade bratwurst. Need I say any more? Although I can't confirm 100%, I believe this to be a 100% family organization with people who really seem to care and take pride in what they do.
There was live music playing, a guy who knew how to draw a beer behind the bar, the World Cup on the NICE flat screen TV behind the bar, and I was told 2 family members back in the kitchen who were responsible for whipping out the best German cuisine I've had since my great aunt Eldo (who spoke German as a 1st language...born in 1895) passed away when I was 6 years old.
Make sure you go and check these guys out. They actually give a damn about what they do and how they do it. Their prices are more than reasonable ($4 for a well drawn, fresh Spaten to go along with an out of this world spin on a burger or the best Jaeger Schnitzel I've had in the entire state of Texas). Please, please, please patronize them. In these tough financial times, it would be a true loss for ALL of Central Texas to lose such a wonderful hidden gem.
Austin's BEST German Food. This is a great family run business. I am in here a lot and I always see families eating, couples and just singles in for a good meal. Being German, the food is the most authentic you will find anywhere outside of Germany. I think any negative comments about the food on here are due to Americans being used to Americanized German food. Come try how it is supposed to be! Always try the special! It is "until we run out" so get there early. The beer selection is great and the atmosphere is warm. Run, don't walk here!
Disappointing and definitely overpriced. We have been here twice and the food just doesn't seem to live up to it's high price. The mashed potatoes are watery and lumpy at the same time...very strange! The breading on the schnitzel has no real flavor. The most disappointing item so far was the new chicken schnitzel. A tiny portion of meat with absolutely no flavor to it and only one side item...all for $11.99. I feel like if we go a third time the trick is on me.
Great authentic food and beer, reasonable price.
I went to Nuernberg Brauhaus its second day and we've returned at least 4 times. If we didn't travel so much, we'd go back more often, like at least weekly.
We walked in with no expectations and were immediately surprised by the authenticity and variety of German dishes on the menu. There were several flavors of schnitzel and many popular German sides.
I've tried an array of things and definitely find their Brats and sauerkraut to be top-notch and as good if not better than stuff I've had in Bavaria.
Erdinger Kristal and Schneider Weisse bier are two of my favorites and the fact that they have them is awesome. At $5 and $6 it's a deal too since these are very expensive beers to buy even at Specs.
Everyone we've met that works there is really nice. Having lived in Pflugerville for 5+ years now, I found it an absolute treat that this place opened!!
On a final note, I've had a couple issues, but none that make me even considering changing my 5 star rating:
1. The goulash is to die for. We've had it three times. However, the last time it was notably too salty. This proves that it is hand made, but we just found it too salty last time. Of course, I still ate it all and will continue ordering it since it is plain awesome. The bartender (JD) recommended we try it initially, and we're glad he did.
2. One night the place was packed, it had a waiting/standing line. There was no bartender working that night and it caused excessively long waits. Sitting at the bar I saw first hand how difficult it was for two waitresses to tend to taking orders, managing people waiting in line, pouring beer (people order a lot of beer here) and cashing people out. We even found ourselves a couple times feeling the pain of our waitress. I'd have ordered more food/beer if the service was free, but I saw that as a one-time staffing issue (it was Friday night). I could see however that this would bother a lot of people, but I see it as true, authentic, slow European service.
We'll be back, probably this weekend. The place is great and authentic, and this comes from someone who spends 2-3 weeks in Bavaria every year.
One of my Favorite Restaurants.
My wife and I have both lived in Germany for many years and have always enjoyed German food. It is always so difficult to find good quality German Restaurants that aren't over priced. I must say that Nuernberg Brauhaus has been a welcome surprise!
All the dishes are very good and priced fairly.
We have been there 3 weeks in a row, this week will make number 4. We have a standing German Food on Friday night penciled onto the Calendar now! The food is very good, at least one of us has had the special each time we have been there, each time it has been great! The home-made Bratwurst is Excellent, the best I have had since living in Germany!
I had Lunch there today and got a chance to speak to the owner, Jeremiah at the Bar. He was very nice, and told me the story of how his family started the restaurant. It was nice to hear that it was family run and that both he and his wife's family worked at the Brauhaus. Each of his family members came out to say hello and thank me for coming. Jeremiah's mother was very pleasant. I really felt at home. I'm just sorry I had to leave and get back to work. I felt very welcome and enjoyed my lunch (Bratwurst, Potato Salad) with an ice cold Trumer Pilsner.
I highly recommend the Nuernberg Brauhaus, hopefully we will see you on Friday Nights!!!
