What Our Expert Scouts Say

TnT Tacos and Tequila
December 04, 2012

TNT likes to play musical chairs with its margarita flavor options, cycling in creative offerings like grapefruit/tarragon and peach/basil. But if you want a solid, straightforward marg, you can find one here every day for $4 during happy hour.

Good but leave out the fish. The service was good. The atmosphere has a lot of energy. I had the salmon taco and it gave me food poisoning. My friend had half of a salmon taco too and she was a little sick. I wouldn't recommend going there to eat but if it hadn't been for me being sick for 30 hours it would have been great. I'm sure I'll go back again but won't be having anything w/ seafood.

Great food, tres hip atmosphere, service. Friends brought us to this great new spot. If you like variety, this is the place to come. 3 salsas, 2 kinds of chips (sweet potato & corn). are standard. Queso sampler (3) is yummo!

I like the fact that they let you mix & match on what you order. Not super cheap - about $7-12, but quality & variety make it worth it

Be sure to try corn crusted taco (pick your meat) & hatch relleno, grilled corn w/ spices & cheese is a tasty bargain to share at $2.

Margaritas are about $10, but large & good.

Parkling in the building is free, but spaces are small.

The Worst Experiance EVER. Ate at TNT last night, hadn't been back since my last bad experience. Went last night giving it another try... Yep food poisoning. Probably from the frozen tacos or maybe from the horrible queso. Or the bad horrific service. I highly recommend NOT eating here. Unless your ready to get sick. I threw up all night. If it weren't for the atmosphere I am certain they will go out of business. I went there with a large party and literally EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US got SICK!!! I

Amazing quality in food, drink and service. This is definitely one of my new favorite spots in town. For about ten dollars during happy hour, you can get two tacos, a margarita, and a complimentary quesadilla bar. It's more than enough to fill you up, but trust me when I say you'll want to come back for more!

The tables and bar are very modern but easy on the eyes. The openness of the windows is refreshing given how many tables they have in their modest space. And for you dog-owners out there, they do have a dog-friendly patio! The waitstaff is enthusiastic about the food and drinks, and be prepared to have your guacamole made fresh - right at the head of your table straight from the avocado.

The salsas are refreshing and the chips are a mix of sweet potato crisps and classic tortilla. Don't shy away from their ancho-chipotle mayo dip - embrace it! As for the main course, TnT offers a selection of proteins (with several vegetarian options) that you can put into a taco, wrap, burrito or salad. Pair them with sides or desserts for a fabulous and filling meal. Expect to get hooked on this place. I know I am!

Austin's Newest Southwestern Inspired Tequila Bar and Grill. There’s a new kid on the block serving Southwestern cuisine and no, its first name does not start with a “Z,” but it is located close by in downtown on West 5th Street. Welcome TNT, Tacos and Tequila. A brand new concept and the first of its kind from the family of Blue Mesa Grill out of Dallas. Don’t turn your back just yet, this Dallas family is incorporating Austin’s finest. Chef Alma Alcocer-Thomas, formerly of five-star Jeffery’s fame, is running the open kitchen and turning out grilled gems. Austin’s own architect extraordinaire Michael Hsu’s finger print is also present with the unique and interesting iron-clad well suspended from the ceiling displaying the finest in tequilas. TNT doesn’t stop there, they have teamed up with local charity, Urban Roots. 50 cents from every order of custom, table-side Good Karma Guacamole goes to this charity.

Simple, local seasonal ingredients with the help of spices and the grill round out the menu of tacos, burritos and skewers. Tequila-based specialty drinks use only seasonal fresh squeezed juices. Get there now for the Fresh Peach Blueberry Margarita, it’s like cobbler in a glass without the (calorie) guilt. TNT has a ton of other great stuff going on, so go there now and get your taco and tequila fix.
