Austin >Lucy's Fried Chicken
Can I get a "yum, yum!?" Lucy's deviled eggs appetizer are a must for any newbie. Not only is the fried chicken something to talk about, but the oysters are mouth watering too. Everything comes with a bit of a kick, but a slice of sweet tea pie at the end of the meal is always the happiest of endings.
The batter. The BATTER, people! That "secret buttermilk blend" that Lucy's holds so dear wraps itself around chicken gizzards, chicken livers, and other organy chicken parts you may think twice about, and transforms them into crunchy, addictive, fried goodness. You may want to make a special trip just to sample all their wood fired oysters too, which, OK, aren't "soul food" proper, but damn if they aren't tasty. My favorite is the aggressively fattening Diablo, seasoned with habanero-infused butter, parmesan cheese, and bacon, then spiked with jalapeno.
So delicious! We ordered a bucket of chicken and it was more than enough for 3 people (big guys) to eat. We also had the wood fired oysters and deep fried deviled eggs both were divine. Would recommend!
It's About Time!. Lucy's magic is all about the batter - peppery, crisp, crackle-y, bursting with spice layers. Paired it with their fresh, cold potato salad from creamy new potatoes. Just order the bucket.
