THIEF!. I had the worst experience at Balcones Pain Consultants. I was told upon my first visit that all my pain was mental, and then refered to get an MRI at a nearby location. BPC called me and said that everything from my MRI looked fine, but still wanted to give me the injections??? I was charged $468 for a single urine drug screen. The staff and billing department constantly make you wait, whether it be on the phone or in the office. I am outraged to find out that I know owe almost $500 for TWO visits after my insurance adjustment. The staff, billing department, and doctors have been so disrespectful. I do not know how this clinic is still operating. It is an outrage. And the first posts must have come from the staff that works there. Very contradicting from the last review and Yelp. Highly advise against any one going here.
Nightmare. I have never been more disappointed with a doctor's office. My husband was a patient there for some time and ended up having to find a new pain management doctor. The issue with this place lies more with the staff. I've never encountered such incompetence. I can't tell you how many times they neglected to authorize refills properly - I think we stopped counting after the seventh incident. These were refills for major medications - things you cannot stop taking abruptly without serious and dangerous withdrawal risks. We did everything correctly on our end and repeatedly asked how to avoid having the same problem again. Yet when he tried to request a refill they either said "you aren't eligible yet, you need to wait" or "be sure to call ahead next time... don't wait until the last minute." We couldn't win. There was one point at which my husband had to explain simple math to one of the ladies working there. She was insisting that he was not due for a refill on a medication because it had not been 30 days. This particular medication is a patch that is replaced every 7 days. He had to point out that 4x7=28, not 30. There was also a time that my husband had a procedure performed there and responded poorly to the anesthesia used. We had arranged for a family member to pick him up afterwards and when I didn't hear from anyone, I assumed he'd been picked up and was sleeping at home as planned. When I followed up with said family member I learned that he was still waiting on a call from the office. I arrived there to find my husband completely incoherent. They brought him out in a wheelchair and I learned they'd just left him sitting in an exam room after his procedure without even contacting me (or anyone else). Had I not called looking for him, he might have been there all day. That is awful patient care patient and I hardly think anyone there would appreciate his/her spouse being treated that way. Looking back, we should have switched doctors long before we did. He was just seeing so many specialists and the thought of starting over with one of them was overwhelming. Shame on us for putting up with this place as long as we did. I hope we can save someone else from the same nightmare.
Dr McCarty and staff are the best!. I have been a patient of Dr. McCarty's for years now - it is very difficult to find a pain mgmt practice so anti-narcotic/pain med oriented. His nurse practioner Kim K. is amazing - so understanding as she has back problems also. I've been able to continue working successfully due to injections, their support, Dr. McCarty's recommendation that I practice Tai-Chi (sp?) - which is amazing for stretching! Lisa with the billing is so polite and a true professional - as are all the staff! If you are looking for long term help - espec if you have issues as I do - 3 back surgeries, 2-level lower back fusion, failed cervical fusion, successful 2-level cervical fusion - this is the place to come!
Finally found my answer!. After neck fusion, 4 back surgeries, lumbar fusion rt/lft rotator cuff repair and hip replacenemt x2, I thought my active life was over. Until I found Dr. McCarty, I thought pills were my only answer. After treatment, injections, nerve oblation, bio-feedback from recommended PT therapy, I am happy and relatively active for a 65 year old woman. Dr. McCarty and his staff truly changed my life and gave hope for my future. I wish I could give them a 10!
Dr. McCarty and staff-highly recommend this office.. Dr. McCarty and Dr. Lowry and their staff are a wonderful group of providers. Their office is in South Austin.. it was easy to find and good (free) parking! I was having hip and leg pain and Dr. McCarty really listened to my problems and was very kind during our appts. I had injections in those areas and felt immediately better. I was able to go on walks with no pain and was able to start doing the things I was having a hard time doing before the injections. These doctors are professional and compassionate and I would definitely reccomend them to any of my family and friends.
Highly Recommended. The doctors are very compasionate, professional and attentive. Provided the best treatment options for chronic pain. Overall great experience!!!
