Good local beer and excellent food. The shrimp and grits are amazing - the steak frites and fish and chips are good too. The beer flights are a great way to sample all of their beers, and they have new specials on tap all the time.
Situated at one of the metrorail train stops, community-owned Black Star Co-Op makes for a terribly fun date night. The fancy pub food and beer flights are truly excellent, but what makes Black Star most interesting is its radical backstory: After fundraising for nearly four years, Black Star opened its current location in September 2010 after raising $600,000 from members, eschewing venture captial. Today, members can join for as little at $40, and when there's profit, it goes back out to all the members. We'll cheers to that.
First brewpub co-op in the country! Black Star features delicious home-brewed beers & a locally sourced menu. Impress your friends here!
I just gave Black Star Co-Op a. Blackstar has amazing selection of seasonal micro-brews both made on site and those of other local and national micro-breweries. No tips are accepted as the staff makes "a living wage."
Black Star Co-Op. A farm to table menu and house brews are the stars of the show at this neighborhood bar. Don't miss bacon toffee for dessert.
Cool vibe with an abundant and varied menu selection. Sit at the bar for full service. Order the Co-Op Sampler.
