Tips for A Plus Transmission Specialist

July 23, 2012

They were very polite and helpful. Gave me the coupon special on a fluid change, even though I didn't have the coupon with me. Then they significantly reduced the price since I had to wait about an extra 30 minutes. Ken is a gentleman and nice to visit with. They will get my business if I should ever need transmission work in the future.

They paid attention, took care of the car, got me right out and all at a very reasonable price. I will be taking all the family cars there now that I know I can trust their work and prices.

Ken and the guys at A Plus Transmission on Ben White are fantastic! We had taken our truck to another repair shop in town when the transmission blew and after a week of headaches and no working transmission I called A Plus on a whim to get random advice on transmission costs. He was honest, straighforward, and offered to take care of the transmission for us. He towed our truck from the shop to his for no charge, offered to give us a credit for what the other shop had already charged us and immediately went to work replacing the transmission. He knew we were under the gun to get it completed -- after being without it for a week already -- and worked extra hard to get everything repaired quickly. His cost was fair, the work was high quality, and he was amazingly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would recommend A Plus Transmission to anyone who asks and will definitely take my vehicles back for any work they might need in the future!

Went in to ask what tranny fluid they used. Owner(?) said they use the recommended fluid. I told him the manufacturer recommends MERCON V. He says they use DEXRON and it is the same thing. I informed him of his error and he stated that he has 30 years experience and that I should have a good day. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE as they have apparently been making the SAME mistakes for 30 years. WOW that was close.

BE AWARE!!! BAD SERVICE & WARRANTY. My worst experience!!!.. After rebuilding my transmission $2k+ my car came out the very first day with a strong noise when shifting from 2nd to 3th gear (only from 2nd to 3th) I took the car to them several times and they gave me the worst response. They just don't want to do warranties!!!. They never accepted the problem was in a bad rebuild transmission. They are rude, unpolite and very unprofessional. I recommend you to take your car somewhere else.

Bad tempered owner just wants your money. Do NOT go here. DANGER! I see there are plenty of other horror stories about A PLUS TRANSMISSIONS on Yelp, but I felt compelled to add mine:

I am a pretty good mechanic.  The transmission in my 5 year old Dodge pickup lost 2nd gear.  I pulled the transmission out myself and carried it in on Thursday.  David, a very nice fellow greeted us and said they offer a free tear down service and they'd show me what the problems are.  I said OK and came back Friday.  He showed me the snapped 2nd gear and also one of the other gears that THEY broke during the disassembly.  He said they would cover the cost of replacing that and he'd have a bid for me Monday.  I stopped by on Monday; NO DAVID.  The owner informed me that DAVID DOESN'T WORK HERE, he was just covering for me last week.  The estimate? $3200.  I said i don't think so.  He said, well, we can do it for $2800.  I said, "I'll think about it and get back to you."  I left and before i got home my cell phone was ringing.  Guess who? "I talked to 'the shop' and they can do it for $2400."  No thanks, just put it back together.  I spent 5 minutes on ebay, got a guaranteed replacement shipped from Oklahoma for $745. plus $90. shipping.

When I went back to get the bad one, the owner went ballistic.  "I'm not putting that back together for you. I'm not going to spend another minute on it. i don't care what DAVID told you, I'm the owner, what I say goes."  He wanted to get paid to stick it back together so I can send it back as a core.  I got back a box of broken parts and a lecture from the guy.

Satisfied Customer...again.. I've refered co-workers, family and close friends. I faithfully send people their way. They choose and up front and plain english approach to the repairs you need. I was NOT upsold on anything. Transmissions are expensive and the cost is hard to swallow, however A+ does a good job of explaining the entire repair. It cost to drive/own a car and it pays dividends to be resonsible about your maintenenc and repairs. I used them for fluid changes for years, and when it came time for a major overhaul (I tow a signifiacant ammount) there were no questions where to take it. They only charge $10 bucks for a fluid change!! That saves thousands in the long run!

Beware!. went to A Plus because I thought I may have a transmission problem. They drove it for about 45 mins with a diagnostic computer attached. When they came back, I saw they were preparing to raise up my truck, I asked why they had my truck on lifts and were raising it up? They stated they wanted to take off the pan to look for problems. I asked them if they had gotten a code indicating transmission problems. They stated yes a P0068 code for my Dodge. I asked if this code related to the transmission and was told "Yes". I had a feeling in the back of my neck telling me not to allow them to removed the pan. So I thanked them and left. I immediately called up another transmission place that had very good reviews and gave them the P0068 code. I was told this was not a code relating to a transmission. Turns out it was a code relating to air flow and had nothing to do with the transmission. Now I had to ask myself why A Plus Transmissions would tell me the code was related to my transmission. The only reason I can think of is that they wanted me to think I had a transmission problem and pay mucho bucks to fix the transmission when it didn't need fixing. I don't know why a business just can't be honest rather than victiminzing people to make money they didn't honestly earn. Especially with todays economy. I feel an honest business can make more money in the long run rather than deceiving people. What a shame. I recommend going to Ike's Transmissions on Anderson Lane for your transmission problems. That at leat appear to be an honest company.

Buyer Beware. Buyer beware. After a transmission overhaul and complete rebuild ($3,000) they did not put my speed sensor back on right. It ended up rubbing on my axle and breaking off. They would not pay for the part or repair, even though I jumped through their hoops to get them the information they needed.

GREAT service. A big thank you to the guys that worked on my car. My car wasn't working right for what seems like forever - and I finally had to take it in for work. I expected the worst. But, was very surprised it wasn't a big problem, better than that it wasn't a big repair bill. Thank you for being an honest shop, it's really hard to find these days. I'll be back
