A pleasant eatery serving oak-wood-fired pizzas baked in a century-old oven..
In Short
The Brick Oven serves up its famous pizzas made in a 100-year-old, 700-degree oak wood oven. The decor is casual. The furniture and paintings are plain and tasteful, but unchanging. The most popular item on the extensive menu is the pizza: the portobello-prosciutto pie is covered with Gorgonzola and sun-dried tomato pesto. Spinach calzones have four cheeses, garlic and onion. All baked meals have Brick Oven's slightly smoky taste.
Excellent Pie, VERY Romantic!. Authentic European style pie here. Pizza is not very big, but huge on taste. Very quiet, pretty, small dining room. I'd recommend this restaurant for any guy that wants to propose to his girl over a glass of wine and a slice of pie!
My All Time Favorite Italian. Whether you want a quick lunch or a romantice dinner Brick Oven is an exquisit place to dine with. I have never been let down by the personable staff, delicious food, or sensable price. I would definalty reccomend the pizza and any type of pasta. It is great.
Excellent Pizza!. I'm not sure why the other reviewers are so negative on this restaurant--maybe they just went on bad days. They use very fresh ingredients on the pizza--the one I had last night had mounds of fresh Roma tomatoes, chipolte sauce, spicy chicken, fresh purple onions, and cilantro. It was delicious, and still tastes just as great this morning! My 4-year-old daughter loved the spaghetti with meatballs, and she is quite picky about her food. For diners who are looking for fresh and healthy ingredients on their pizza, instead of mounds of grease and too much cheese with canned vegetables and frozen meat, this is the spot. My friend had the calizone, and it was huge. The waitress was very nice, prompt, and attentive. The capital was right out our window and was quite beautiful. I highly recommend this restaurant!!
Don't Bother. A few coworkers and myself went for lunch one day and the service was bad, to put it plainly. The food was fair. We opted not to complain and let the tip reflect our dissatisfaction with the service. Our server followed us out to our vehicle and returned the tip. I wouldn't eat there again for free.
Go somewhere else. The service is just pitiful. Salads after pizza, etc. Forget wine - if you do get it, it won't be what you ordered. Native Austininte - never figured out why people go here. It's just a rip.
Good food, good game.
A recent outing to a Longhorn basketball game gave us the opportunity to dine at this restaurant for the first time in a while. Although the establishment keeps getting bigger every time we go, the quality of the food hasn't suffered one bit. The garlic bread appetizer was tasty and large enough for the four of us. The Ceaser salad was good, although it could have used a little more dressing. But the pizza, ah, the pizza was just right. Good toppings, good crust, good service and it turned out to be a good game.
That's all folks
The other Brick Oven!. The Brick Oven pizzaria at 1608 W 35th Street is wonderful: Great atmosphere, wonderful food, great service. The Brick Oven on Red River, dispite the same name shares few of these attributes. It's night and day.
Not very good. I think this is susposed to be some type of gourmet type of pizza but it sucks. I won't go back! In Texas there is some awsome food but a good Pizza is very hard to find. Stick to BQ and Tacos.
Average to poor. The food is very average and the kitchen is often careless - for example, I am vegetarian and in one case I verified and ordered a vegetarian pasta in a cream sauce. When it was brought to the table, it had chunks of chicken in the sauce. Another time, a supposed plain tomato sauce had some meat in in - probably from using the same ladle for several sauces. In having business luncheons there several times, the service was NEVER excellent - average at best and often very slow and poor.
