Austin >Zed's Restaurants LP
WOW what a mistake....BAD.
I visited Zeds for Easter brunch on 4/8/2012. I made a reservation a week prior online, for a party of 3, for their Easter brunch at 11:30am. I had requested outside seating when making the online reservation.
After an initial scare because the front desk couldn’t locate my name for the reservation, a very young hostess walked my party outside. Their outside seating area actually consists of 3 areas: a covered wood deck, a covered bar, and an uncovered bunch of tables on the grass. I immediately asked to sit on the deck, the hostess said "Oh, no. I need to sit you on the grass". I asked "Really? On the grass with no cover? The sun is getting pretty hot already". She then offered to sit us at the bar instead.
I looked at the bar, it looked OK, but not as good as the deck, it was further away from the water fountain. So, I politely temporarily declined both the grass and the bar, and asked to speak with a manager to determine how unavailable the empty deck with no customers really was. .
OMG, what a mistake. The Wicked Witch of the West appeared after a 10 minute wait, general manager Laura Josselson. This creature walked up to me with a mean and very irritated look on her face. She definitely looked MAD to have been disturbed. She walked straight up to me with a deep scowl and immediately "scolded me" for "demanding" to sit at the deck, and that those precious deck tables were "reserved". Not being intimidated by this scolding, I politely inquired as to her definition of "reserved tables" , since I in fact had a reservation and should therefore (I figured) be eligible to sit at any table that is reserved for people with reservations, like I had.
Well this creature just stared at me, jaw dropped, and then scolded me AGAIN - this time with a stern “warning” that she will do what she can to accommodate me, but that I "may not like it". What was that supposed to mean? Was she going to sit me in the batrhoom or something? I was afraid to ask. What was strange, though, was that for several LONG seconds after this, she just stood there staring at me in some sort of weird silent stare-down. It was uncomfortable, and my daughter standing behind me was getting a little scared.
In an effort to end this awkward staredown and to get her moving, I politely informed the woman that I would give her 5 miniutes to get some sort of table for me. In response to this, Laura Josselson THEN sclolded me a 3rd time, by telling me that she "will not be disrespected", and that I need to "treat her with respect". She went on and on about being respected, like I just forgot to bow to the Queen of Sheba. I was utterly bewildered by this woman's unprofessionalism and negative reaction to anything and everything that came out of my mouth. She had a serious problem.
I politely informed her to calm down, that I did not come here to argue with her , and that she needed to get on with the business of geting my party a table. At this point I was ready to leave the restaurant, but she beat me to it. Yep - She asked me to leave...as in...she was now refusing to seat me anywhere, and was kicking me and my party out on our tails....on Easter.... because she lacked the professionalism to handle a request.
To put a cherry on top, on my way out I sternly told the broom hilda that I would complain about her attitude. Her response? “Really?!”…as in…”good luck, that won’t do any good!”.
Unbelieveable, and unacceptable
