poor food experience.
Went to Perry"s for the first time, Friday Feb 10th, 2012, for dinner. The atmosphere is very pleasant. The decor is great, the piano player - combo was marvelous. The drinks were very good. Our server-waiter "Ari" was awsome. His attention to detail and personal vigilance were great and very much appreciated. However, the dinner entrees were sorely lacking. I ordered the Perry Fillet Special served with lump crab. The steak was over salty & slightly tough although it was medium as requested and the crab was over cooked & tasteless.. My spouse ordered the Tempura Lobster special, but it was not Tempura, it was some sort of Fish & Chip Batter not crispy at all. It was soggy and you could not taste the lobster over the batter flavor. We had spinach and asparagus as complements. The asparagus was under cooked and the spinach was overly salty, too much lemon as well a tasteless parmesan topping. We did tell our server, Ari, who was very apologetic and provided free deserts as compensation. My spouse had the Bread Pudding with Marshmallow topping, which was very good and I had Bananas Foster. Unfortunately, eating experience was destined to be less than desired. The Flambe Person, did not follow a known recipe but his own personal taste. As simple as it is to make (my hope they would not screw it up) he added far too much cinnamon which absorbed any created liquid into a thick sludge and masking any banana flavor. The hand rolled ice cream was good, but it was a huge ball which was too much and also predominated any other flavors.
My spouse and I like to try new restaurants but this is one chain that we will avoid in the future. Sadly, poor quality in the kitchen & oversight from management.
My favorite place in town. My husband and I live downtown and go to Perry's at least once a month. We are the kind of people that go where we know its good versus always trying new places. Call me boring, but if I am going to spend that kind of money on a meal, I want to know that entire experience is going to be good. Our most recent trip was for our anniversary. My husband mentioned that it was for our anniversary when making the reservation, but I wasn't expecting anything special. I thought it was very kind that the table they gave us had rose petals on it and was obviously set for us. I appreciate the extra step. Chris, a manager, came over and visited with us for a bit and was very interested in making sure we had a great time. I am not the kind of person who usually leaves reviews but I know its important and I want to make sure those companies that go the extra step are recongnized and this is one of those companies!
Best steakhouse in Austin. Excellent preparation of all meats. Excellent service. Have eaten at all major steakhouses in Austin and feel this is most consistently the best!

WOW! I have eaten here several times. Where to begin? The food, the service, the atmosphere, the music, the wine...everything about is is fantastic! We usually valet which is so nice downtown. Never had any problems. I'll just simply and quickly review the 2 most important aspects: the food and the service.
The food is amazing. Every time I go, I get the pork chop. It's a HUGE portion and really what they are known for. There is no question why. It is so tender and really tasty. Almost with a sweet carmelized taste to it. My husband has had a steak (not sure which one) and salmon before and really enjoyed both. The augratin potatoes and salad are wonderful as well. And on to dessert...your server will probably mention a chocolate cake as your food is served since it take a while to cook. Well, go ahead and order one. Oh. My. Goodness. It is delicious and so rich.
The service is also amazing. My first visit there, Megan Davis was my server. Since then, we call ahead and make a reservation to sit with her. After being in the service industry for years, we really think the service can make or break your experience. Megan MAKES the experience here. She is great. It feels good to go to a restaurant certain that you will be taken care of.
Again, we had a wonderful time and will go back. I haven't been there early enough for happy hour but heard they have a great one. Might be worth looking into...
Yummy!. My friends and I went to Perry's the other night for a birthday celebration and everything about it was great! I had the Perry's Filet and it melted in my mouth, my boyfriend had their famous pork chops and they were amazing. RC was our waiter and he was great; very helpful and was well informed about the food and wine. It's definitely a "special occasion" place b/c it's not cheap, but it is well worth the price!
Althougth the food was ok I figured from the glamorous look and size of building I would
receive excellent well trained staff. The pork chop that everyone raves about was only warm
and asparagus was less than desirable. It was an extremely long wait for waiter to take order
and even longer to receive our food. My martini was very weak--we were told by our friends in Houston
who frequent Perry's regularly there that the food etc is fabulous --our friends also rave
about the wonderful valet service they receive there in Houston--not so here. The valet attendant looked untidy and drove off in my car as if he were an inexperienced driver--I found cigarette butt in my ashtray and neither my wife or myself smoke. We might give this place another try in about 6 months--we're hoping they get their act together a little better since its a new location.

What started as a family meat market in Houston in the '70s has grown to a franchise with five restaurants and an Austin location downtown. With 16,000 square feet of dining space, the towering ceilings and elegant decor reveal six adjacent dining rooms, one of which still features a massive steel vault door from the Tower's banking days. Expect authentic seafood fare with a few suprises including buttery escargot, fresh seafood, dry-aged New Zealand lamb chops, pecan-smoked baby back ribs and jaw-dropping "seven finger" pork chops.
