A petite gastropub on Guadalupe, Hopfields appeals to beer drinkers on all levels, from brew geeks to the "ew, that's bitter" crowd (i.e., me). Their beer shortlist reveals a discriminating, Belgian-leaning palate, with a couple of ciders, a wheaty Hef, and some big bad malts. Coupled with an equally thoughtful cocktail list and a menu of down-home French cooking (try the rum French toast for brunch), it's a comfy, classy spot to wile away an hour or two. Venture to the back patio to claim the covered gazebo for you and about 20 of your friends.

Thumbs up for the food, atmosphere, and awesome beer list. The frites are a must and the ratatouille is decadently buttery.

A French gastropub, dude-style: Hopfields may serve pretty food, but that doesn't mean its girly. This craft beer-filled bar is refreshingly gender-neutral, with an unfussy (but delish) food menu, and decor that relies on burlap, wooden benches, and steampunk light fixtures. I'm finding myself wander in more and more, taking advantage not only of the cheese board, but the intimate patio out back.
