What Our Expert Scouts Are Saying
There was no shortage of buzz surrounding Olive & June, the new project of parkside's young culinary upstart, Shawn Cirkiel, in the months prior to its opening. Unlike parkside, Olive & June would have an Italian menu, and unlike Sixth Street, the focus here would be ample, frat-boy-free outdoor seating. We waited with bated breath. When the restaurant opened just a short walk away from the original Kerbey Lane, its warm reception was well-earned. Here is a restaurant that, like parkside before it, understands the value of an orderly kitchen and waitstaff. Indoor seating is minimal, but fortunately, porch-friendly Austinites like dining al fresco. Now let's talk about the food. Here, down-home Italian dishes are sexed-up with bold ingredients. Like the ravioli: It's stuffed with short rib, pecorino, olives, roasted sweet peppers, and thyme. Atkins got your tongue? Go for the grilled swordfish, prepared with pistachio, caper, mint, and lemon. Basically, anything you order will leave you either sighing or screaming, both with joy.

Family-style cheese plate: By far the biggest cheese board on this guide, Olive & June's does not hold back. The housemade mortadella sausage is salty and divine, especially when smeared with some licorice-y fennel preserves, and the cheeses -- oh. Let's not even talk about it. I'm still recovering from some housemade ricotta, whose creamy masses may or may not have been licked totally clean by my spoon.

This spot is currently our favorite
"hmmmm, where should we go tonight...?" spot. Its perfect: the food is outstanding and the prices are perfect -- making frequent visits to this blissful eatery possible for even those of us watching our budgets. Olive and June makes for a wonderful evening out -- without breaking the bank. We started visiting for special occasions; now, we visit on any occasion just because we crave their fresh, flavorful menu.
Our favorites include the farm egg (you'll be tempted to split this incredible item, and you might --the first time. After that, you'll insist on your own...I love my husband, but I want my own farm egg ;) The fried artichokes are superb; really ANYTHING you order will be a creative show-stopper - so enjoy!!
Try to visit during happy hour. Their prices are already amazing - but, when you consider their HH deals, this spot is a steal. Invite a great group of friends, order a variety of menu items, and enjoy one of Austin's best new culinary offerings.
