Weather Up

You could say that Kathryn Weatherup, whose Weather Up bars in Brooklyn and Tribeca have attracted long attracted fans (the first Weather Up opened in 2008), is something of an ice geek. She prepares enormous mounds of ice that weigh more than you do, with an ice maker made for ice sculptors. The result? Six different ice varieties, whose textures and sizes divide up the massive menu of libations into six parts. Each drink is pricy -- about $10-- but single block ice generally means your beverage lasts longer, so order one of those: The Fancy Free, with Elijah Craig 12 Year Old Bourbon, orange and maraschino cherry elements, is a winner.
