What Our Expert Scouts Are Saying

Sway
"Are you tasting this? Are you TASTING this?" this was all I could say to my table mates the first time I ate at Sway. "Oh my God. The Tom Kha," one of them said, gesturing to her soup. Likewise, I lifted a steaming spoonful to my mouth, and – holy of holies, I tasted a spicy, coconut tonic with a texture so rich, it coated my entire tongue. "The Jungle Curry! Try the Jungle Curry!" someone shouted, with an urgency more befitting a paramedic than a foodie, and we obediently all took a bite. "No. Just – no," my friend murmured, not quite believing that the rich cream in her bowl hid not chicken, not tofu, but big bold Texas wagyu beef. "Oh no he DIDN'T," I cried, then took one more bite, and then another and another, just to make sure.

This impeccably designed South 1st eatery may be more costly than other Austin Thai restaurants, but if you have a hole burning in your pocket and are feeling a little adventurous, you've come to right place. It may seem difficult to wrap your brain around a $15 pad thai dish- I understand your pain- however, chances are you've never had pad thai with blue prawn, have you? Huh? HUH?! Or how about fried rice with blue crab ($18). I didn't think so! Fans cry that this is one of the best Thai restaurants in town and this scout tends to agree (but only when she's feeling rich).

This swanky new Thai joint gets to be slammed pretty quickly on the weekends. Try the green curry!

Should be called "Swoon:" Sway's artisanal Thai food is enough to make you faint into your Tom Kha, what with their well-sourced ingredients and playful riffs on Thai classics. Try their Nashi Pear Chicken, a luscious little stir fry with Austin's vegetable a la mode, brussels sprouts.

Sway Thai is a very hip, modern Thai restaurant with great food that doesn't skimp on the flavor or the spice levels. Because of the wooden communal tables, the ambiance is very well suited to a night out on the town vs a romantic dinner
