Editorial Review for Maguire's Regional Cuisine – by Leah Shafer

The Scene
Iron- and gold-colored glass fixtures cast a low-lit glow over the dark-wood interior. A bold, busy mural above the kitchen adds some personality. The staff is unobtrusive and knowledgeable.

The Food
Sesame-seared ahi tuna appetizer is colorfully presented on a bed of crisp Asian slaw with wasabi and pickled ginger on the side. Salmon is deliciously smoked and served with remoulade, capers, red onion and crostinis. Pistachio-crusted mahi mahi has a delicate crust and mild, sweet taste. The accompanying sweet-potato puree is an unexpected and excellent flavor match. For dessert, the chocolate lava cake is worth the 15-minute wait for its fudge-like center and vanilla ice cream.

My wife and I ate at Maguire's last Friday for the first time since they remodeled. The food was as good as ever, and the update looks great. My wife had the fish special, and I had the beef. Both were excellent. Like everyone else in town, they had taken tomatoes off of the menu, so we tried the bbq chicken flat-bread for the first time (we've gotten the southwest flat-bread before). It was outstanding, too. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and we had a wonderful time. We will be returning soon. Highly recommended in all regards.

Pros: Food quality, service, atmosphere

Cons: None

Maguires has long been a family favorite, and we have always loved the decor, but the remodel really rocks! The whole look is stunning from the floor-length drapes to the very chic new dining chairs...awesome! We were happy to see that all of our faves were still on the menu, though...especially the meatloaf and the maple-ginger glazed salmon, among others. We had the fish special with some amazing couscous and it blew us away. Still have a kickin wine list...and our server told us that there will be new stuff added to the menu soon, so we will definitely be back in the next few weeks to see what awaits our taste buds! Definitely put it on your summer to-do list!
