In Short – Push through the ancient screen door into the high-ceilinged, smoke-blackened front room. Discolored green walls, broad wooden floorboards and sturdy, weather-beaten tables and chairs greet barbecue enthusiasts of every stripe, as does the irresistible fragrance of wood-smoked meat. When the brisk-paced line reaches the counter, a friendly Mueller family member will give you a bite-size sample of their otherworldly-good brisket. Other choices include a zesty beef sausage, jalapeno sausage and other barbecue favorites.

Not worth the drive but the ribs were good

by shaft28

We took a day out for a long lunch from work one day so I could experience "real Texas BBQ!" Well I didn't like it so much. The sausage was like eating smoke and some other odd flavor and the sauce on the tables looked (and tasted) like drippings of fat. Yuk. The ribs were exceptional, I have to say I enjoyed those quite a bit.

Also liked the atmosphere, just struck me as a really cool spot for a BBQ joint.

Worth it for the ribs but that is about it from what I tried.

Not worth the hype!

by bige1974

I went to Mueller's after watching Food Networks Diners Drive INS & Dives. To say I was disappointed is an understatement, the drive is long the parking is terrible since my dining companion is in a wheel chair the parking lot is not very wheelchair friendly. Down to the food the brisket was tough and dry not tender at all and there is no flavor to the meat salt and pepper just don't cut it on cuts of meat like a brisket. The sausage was another disappointment I could not tell the difference between the regular and chipotle. The sides were ok but when I eat BBQ the sides are not the main attraction for me. The ribs were juicy and tender just lacked any real flavor other than smoke. I like the Smokey flavor of smoked meats but it should also have some flavor from spices not over powering but a nice balance. And if I need sauce to create a better flavor then it is not good BBQ to me, I like to eat my BBQ without sauce lets me know just how good the pit master is. I hope that I was there on an off day and would be willing to try again but not willing to make the drive for the fun of it, if I am in the area I would give it one more shot. I am not a competing business and I am a born and raised Texan, but I know that eateries at times have off days and hope this was one of them and that it was not a fluke just because they had a celebrity in the house.

  • Pros: Nice People
  • Cons: Long Drive, Not a good place for people in wheel chairs.

best bbq in america. period.

The guys writing negative reviews are either one of two things. Either they aren't from Texas and don't know what real bbq is. Or they are competing bbq owners and are jealous of Louie Muellers. This place is the best I've ever had, and I've tried almost everything. Do yourself a favor and disregard the negative reviews because you will miss out if you don't try this classic American institution of fine Texas BBQ.

From the moment you walk in you feel like you are on a movie set of what a real BBQ place should look like. Its an old smoky warehouse style building with wooden picnic tables and huge fans that keep the place suprisingly cool even on a hot summer day. The moist brisket is incredible and accompanied with a dipping sauce that compliments it perfectly. The sausage is great. I recommend the regular because its more juicy but the jalepeno is pretty good as well. I've never bothered ordering the ribs because with brisket and sausage that good theres no need for it. The potato salad is excellent. Stay away from the cold slaw. If you are looking for good brisket and sausage, this is the place. Don't go expecting good chicken breast, ribs, cold slaw or anything else. Stick to what they are famous for and you won't be dissapointed.

  • Pros: cool legit atmosphere, great food, great people, cold drinks
  • Cons: its in taylor
