Yummy Homemade Corn Tortillas!
by sgc0719 at Citysearch
I know this place has had some bad reviews, and I'll admit that it is SUPER busy, and you might always get constant attention from the wait staff. But the food is AWESOME. And you get it really quickly. And it IS reasonably priced. It's all scratch-made and you can tell. I have had several servers who were very attentive, and you can always get what you want/need rather quickly. I personally like that they leave you alone to eat! And they make their own corn tortillas!!! And they are so thick and they stay together really well. (and they will package them up so you can buy them and take them home) I recommend it to most people... the ones I don't recommend it to are those I know are a little snooty about restaurants. You definitely have to be laid-back to enjoy your visit here- and know at least a little bit of Spanish! The first time you go, if you are worried, try it during the slower times- in-between breakfast and lunch. Going between 10 and 11am is vastly different than going between 11:30 and 1:30. And I recommend going with only a few people. It's a small place, so there isn't a lot of room for large parties. But GO! It's good!
- Pros: The food!
- Cons: A little small, a little rushed, but still worth it.

Food is good, delicious even, made with quality ingredients and lots of love from the cooks. Much better, in my opinion, than the multitude of trendy, Mexican food hipster spots that overcharge and under deliver (see "SoCo"). So, what's with all these ranting, whining cry baby reviews that aren't really reviews? How do these qualify as reviews of an establishments food and service? Or does everyone just need an outlet for their whining? I bet that's it.
Great food and a place to just relax.

Las Manitas brings back cheerful memories of early Saturday morning breakfasts with friends. The tacos were wonderful. Our coversations can also be of the artwork on the walls or the politics of the day. The owners, Libby and Cynthia are great people not just for their food but for their commitment to the community. I no longer live in Austin, but the memories still linger in me.
- Pros: Everything is great.
- Cons: Sometimes parking but not always.
Loved the breakfast.

We went with a local family and had breakfast on the patio. Breezy and fun. The waiter was helpful as we made our selections from the extensive menu. I made the mistake of ordering two crispy tacos. Piled high with fillings, I could have easily been satisfied with one. Others felt the same way. We had plenty of good food. Orders were promptly taken, service was good, sauces were spicy and flavorful, and we just enjoyed our Mexican breakfasts at the picnic table on the covered patio.

I like this place a lot. While the service isn't always spot-on, I have never had rude or unfriendly service here. They get the job done, and generally quite quickly. The atmoshere is a little bare-bones as well but pleasant, especially the patio. The tortillas are my favortite part, nothing short of delicious. I also love the liquidas (pineapple is awesome) and fresh squeezed juice. The bad side? Despite the rating, the prices don't match the bare-bones experience. Breakfast for two can go upwards of $20 if you go for just a few extras (which is a must due to small portion size)...
- Pros: mmmm tortillas, pleasant atmosphere, quick service
- Cons: too expensive, sometimes overcrowded
not bad

If you work downtown, you should check this restaurant out. I like walking through the kitchen to the back porch. I feel like they have nothing to hide in the kitchen and it also shows on the plate.
