Perfect for a Romantic Dinner!!
by dewitt60
We just love Chez Nous!! We were there just the other night and had a wonderful time. This is one of our favorites and perfect for a special night. I highly recommend it.
- Pros: Great Food, Great Atmosphere
- Cons: Not a lot of varition on the menu.
Excellent Country French Food
by blueplate1
Chez Nous is small but the staff is very attentive and the food is great. You do not find sweet breads on many menus but here they are wonderfully prepared. The escargot and the duck mousse pate are excellent. We did have to wait a bit but stood at the bar and had wine. Highly recommend.
- Pros: Excellent Staff
- Cons: Parking; Hilton hotel is a half block away and has available parking

Umm... FLAN is offered at almost 100% of restaurants IN FRANCE... it is called creme caramel... .
I hate when people that just don't know any better start opening their mouths just to let nonsense fall out of it...Happy Eating!
Good fixed price menu
by waxx
Cozy but busy restaurant with limited seating, so expect a wait. Fixed price menu is worth trying especially if you are going there for the first time. Choices of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. We had the tomato basil soup which was on the creamier side... the salmon and steak were cooked to perfection. The chocolate mousse was a little thicker than most, but good chocolately flavor. The crepes we ordered off the fixed menu for an additional $2, and it was a nice touch to end the meal. Although not too quiet inside, still definitely a good place to take a date out.
- Pros: fixed price menu
- Cons: wait time, limited parking (downtown)
Not my definition of a French restraunt
by chrsbrq
When dining at a French restaurant I don't expect plastic check-board table clothes. I don't expect the Chefs to be young kids that probably have no professional culinary experience. I don't expect to see Flan on the menu. My wife ordered a medium steak. It came out so rare it was bleeding. She also ordered "Creme Caramel" - it was overly sweet Flan! I ordered the Pate and it tasted like it came from a can. I ordered Salmon and it tasted decent but not much more. I would not return nor recommend. Find a better place to celebrate an evening or just stay home.
- Pros: Can't think of any
- Cons: Food
Quite possibly the BEST MEAL I'VE EVER HAD....
by kimilicious03
I enjoyed every aspect of my experience at Chez Nous - atmosphere, wine, service, FOOD. My boyfriend surprised me by taking me there for my birthday. It's a nice place, but is a cozy, comfortable and unpretentious atmosphere, which we really appreciated. Plus, you don't have to know anything about French food to love it.
We started with the Chevre chaud sur canape. Outstanding! The cheese was unbelievable and complimented so well with the greens in the center of the plate. The sliced French bread and homemade (out of this world) butter served throughout the meal was heavenly. We each got one of the 3-course entrees. For the appetizer course, we each had the tomato fennel soup, which was phenomenal. For our main courses, I had the grilled salmon in a garlic buerre blanc (best salmon I've ever tasted), and he had the steak option on the 3-course menu (can't remember the cut of the meat), but it literally melted in your mouth and was cooked to perfection. We shared a bottle of Cotes du Rhone Villages, which came recommended by a lovely French gentleman who from behind the bar saw us trying to choose the perfect wine for our entrees. He said this wine would go well with fish or steak, and it most certainly did. It was fantastic and was even one of the less expensive options. For the dessert course, we opted for the Profiterolles ("Two pastry puffs, filled with vanilla ice cream, topped with a warm chocolate sauce"). You may not think you have room for dessert, but after tasting it, you'd regret having skipped dessert -- perfectly sweet, yet light.
The service was stellar. Our glasses were always full and we were constantly greeted by smiling faces willing and able to answer questions, but also let you enjoy a nice conversation without ever interfering.
I couldn't have asked for a more perfect birthday dinner. It's most certainly going to be our go-to special occasion place. We only wish we could eat there more often. It is INCREDIBLE.
Thank you Chez Nous!
- Pros: Delicious! Comfortable atmosphere, great service, INCREDIBLE food (every single course), no wait on a Friday night!
- Cons: I can't think of any, honestly.
great lunch and bistro-style dinner
by friendoffood
I love this place. I eaten there for several years now and am always pleased. Its a great place to take people to when they are visiting from out of town. If you're looking for a pretentious atmosphere and overly-complicated food, look elsewhere. This place has simple, good food with a relaxed atmosphere. I love the soups, especially the mushroom soup. My favorite salad is the Salad Lyonnaise. I usually get the steak but the Meuniere is always great. The lamb chops are so simple and perfect every time. I also really appreciate that the waitstaff is relaxed and friendly. Its no wonder their are so many regulars that dine here (myself included).
- Pros: food, friendly waitstaff
- Cons: parking
There are more choices....

My husband and I went ther tonight for my birthday and I have never wanted to come home so badly to write a review. I am a hotelier and my family is also in the the restaurant business and I was less impress with this restaurant. I've read many reviews for this restaurant and was quite excited when we decided to go there tonight. The hostess was lovely, the restaurant had a great vibe for a Wednesday night. We ordered their sampler plate which was to have a variety of pates, sausages and cured meats. When it arrived, there were no sausages and only one type of pate, a type which have never seen before. I told one of the waiters, there were 2 servers "group" serving all the tables, that the pate was less than desirable. In fact, it tasted like chicken salad sandwich, minus the onion, celery, etc. He told me that it was what the chef selected. Instead of suggesting that he bring another pate that I try, he walked off. I would have paid extra, it wasn't a freeby that I wanted, I wanted good food. The entrees arrived and my husband ordered the hangar steak which came out rare and cold, the waiter did not ask for a temperature. I ordered the lamb chops medium rare and the entree came out medium well. No server came to ask how our meal was util half way through, when I was half through my meal and my husband's food was no longer edible. He politely asked for them to warm up his meal, which they did, and he found his entree more desireable. To wrap things up, there are too many restaurants in Austin that has better food and better service at this pricepoint. I can guarantee that they have not stayed opend for this long with this type of service and/or quality. It is very quaint and can be so much more. Yes, I understand it's French and they are not known for their service, but guess what? We are in Austin and are very fortunate to have other places to go. I will go to those other places and will recommend that my clients, friends, and family do the same.
- Pros: location, ambiance
- Cons: everything else
Not much parking
by Szitro
We went on my Birthday, 2/13, they were very crowded, they have about 20 tables. We really loved all of the food the wine and the service. We ended up parking at the Courtyards parking lot ($10) but it was worth it, they have parking out front but only a few spots. We will be going back again soon.
- Pros: Parking
- Cons: Food
Love it, but a little mad right now.

We love dining at Chez Nous. The service, food, wine selection, atmosphere...it's all great. Nice overall package.
Last I dined there we had a party of 6. We made reservations ahead of time, as reservations are accepted in parties of 6 or more. I was pleased to see a large party (like more than 15 people) being accommodated later in the evening (say, 8pm). Based on this, I've planned to have a surprise dinner there for my significant other in a few weeks and just called to make the reservation for 12. Unfortunately, the gentleman answering the phone was not willing to oblige my request and upon hearing my dissappointment said that he MIGHT be able to accommodate us but we'd have to dine at 6pm and he'd have to call me later this afternoon to let me know for sure.
I seem to remember the owner/manager being quite friendly with that large party on our last visit. Perhaps you have to know someone to get special treatment. Too bad it's considered special treatment. I'm eager to find out his response to me later, however my taste for this place has already been tainted.
So much for loyalty to regular customers.
