Wonderful people, wonderful place, LOVE IT

For a while there, I was a "regular" at Charlie's restaurant. I was going to this club every Friday night even though, I'm straight. I throughly enjoy the music and cocktails. The bartenders rock and make great drinks! I love the courtyard when you want to get away from the dancefloor. The only reason I'm not going there as much is because I'm getting married and moving to Round Rock but if it wasn't for that, I'd still be there every Friday!!! LOVE CHARLIE'S!

Best Alternative club & FREE Parking

Charlie's has done a lot of growing up over its 24+ years of sreving Austins Gay population, But now that it is COOL to have Gay friends we get every one coming in.. Most diverse crowd in Austin

Charlie's has been the oldest gay bar in Austin since a former city council member got Dirty Sally's, next to UT, closed down in the late 80s. Charlie's is friendly and about the only place in town that welcomes drag queens. It's the most ethnically diverse, too. Any of the other bars you will be pretty conspicuous if you are black or asian, and even hispanic is unusual. Austin is has a very racially segregated gay scene, but this is the one place in town that isn't true.

Plus, you can pick up good ol' boys when the leg' is in session, since it's right down the street from the capitol building. I won't tell :-)

Oldest Gay Bar in Austin, Large part of the staff have been there over 10 years - Friendly and clean

On any given night, Charlie's is always busy, especially on Tuesday and Friday. The staff is always friendly and drinks are the best and usually cheaper. Parking is great and free all the time. They don't have a great dance floor but the music is great. Everyone is always welcome at Charlie's along with all races of people. There are always a lot of hispanics but that makes it good. Charlie's welcomes hispanics, blacks, whites, drag queens, leather, cross dressers, anyone who is gay and a few straight people. Shows are always good and lately the dancers have been great. The staff is great and most of them have been there more than 10 years. Also, the place is always clean. Its an old building but they keep it up and have a full time janitorial staff. Also, they allow minors in the bar after 8Pm everyday. Great place to be.

• Cons: Rest rooms are too small - Dance floor OK but rough

Charlie's

Charlie's is fun and busy alot, they didnt get that way by having horrible dancers and poor service. I read this rude comment made about Charlie's and Manwatch Dancers and Marcy and everyone knows its that old stripper that got to fat for Marcy to book anymore and is now trying to take over her business.

Anyways, there is good to find in everyone and any place if you look for it.

worst place ever!

This place is full of things people do illegally, drunks, bad outfits and drag queens. The staff is terrible and The Manwatch dancers are horrible. Marcy Fletcher is a real witch and she is there way to much.

The crowd consists mostly of 18-and-over guys of all shapes and sizes--even some college kids taking in the party atmosphere. The entertainment includes pool tables, video games and a dance floor, plus a lively patio outside that's often the site of random cookouts. Special events are scheduled for every night of the week, whether it's drag shows, pool tournaments or amateur strip contests. The crowd is slightly more diverse when the grill is serving up its tasty bar fare with burgers, chili and nachos available Monday through Wednesday from 5pm-10pm.

Fridays are the Best Nights

Ppl go here for the $1 well drinks on Friday's. The bar can get crowded on some Friday's so be prepared. The music is Top 40/ R&B/ Latin House. The Sunday night drag show is also excellent.

Waste Of Time And Money

I just turned 21 and was excited about hitting all the clubs other than the only one I could get into before my birthday and most bars were cool with me but one wasn't...Charlie's was way mean to me, starting at the door where my ID was way overchecked while my friend who was UNDERAGE just rolled in, inside there was not much of a crowd (you'd think they'd welcome a cute young guy) and the bar staff were slow to come around, the DJ was playing tunes like we were in Mexico City and when I finally got a bartender, he was rude and the drinks were weak. I know that I am cute and I couldn't believe that this bar treated me so weak. Cleaning would create an improvement. Maybe Monday is just a slow night.

For the past few years EVERYTIME I come in here some great staff member has been released and this year it's the same thing. This place isn't the cleanest or the trendiest and what it does have going for it is it's staff, stop letting them go!
