great underground music scene
by texas_raised129
Emo's is one of my favorite austin venues. I enjoy their list of lineups, even though they refuse to book some rock bands, but this is what makes Emo's original with their music choice. This place is a great enviroment to be in, and the live music is what really attracts me.
- Pros: good music scene
- Cons: It gets excrutaitingly hot outdoors
Chain wallets, emo-core and old-school punk abound at this alt-rock institution.

In Short
Located in the heart of Sixth Street, Emo's offers a generous helping of bands on two stages. Nestled between the two sides of the club is a cozy, under-the-stars backyard with tables and chairs for the Courtney Love-esque girls and chain-wallet, baggy-pants guys who are taking a break from crowd-surfing and moshing. Affordable, ice-cold long neck beers perfectly complement the white-hot local and touring punk, alternative, grunge and thrash-core bands for which Emo's is famous.
a total blast!!!

now if you wanna hear and see some great punk rock bands emo's has got it going on...one of the best places to see punk bands...i love the street feel to it...good beer selection, interesting mix of people go there. doesn't bother me that it's all ages cuz that's what's cool about it...it can get real crowded and there's not many places to sit, other than the floor which can be a drag when you're hammered and need to sit for a spell but i love it!!!! it's a true 6th street joint!!!!
- Pros: killer bands, killer scene, great beer
- Cons: parking, parking, parking
Tattoos

If you don't have a tattoo, you may not feel comfortable here. The crowd can be a bit hard-core, especially if a national act is playing. It's not that they are rude or anything, just that you may feel out of place and unless you're doing a socialogy experiment, you may end up just bored.
Emo's really rocks
by curtissa
Emo's is the best venue in Austin, bringing the coolest local and out-of-town bands together in an awesome environment. A music-lover can see 8 bands in one night, and be able to get a breath of fresh air.
Best live music in Austin
by Scuba7hood
Emo's has the best bands and also the best atmosphere. It would be nice if they didn't let some of the younger people in. But besides that it is a greta place.

I think Emo's gets a bad rep because the bartenders aren't service-industry sycophants and the crowd gets a little sceneterish. But hey, it's pretty much the vena cava of rock n' roll in this town, especially since the Black Cat's in cinders. It's the only place in town where you can see Swearing @ Motorists one night and Propagandhi the next. I've seen some of my best shows there. Jason the sound guy rocks, and the door guys (and grrrls) are always staid, up-standing chaps and chapettes.
- Pros: variety of music, good standby date, decent crowd
- Cons: long lines
Great venue

They have good bands, and the venue itself is extremely interesting. I would definitely recommend this place to friends.
- Pros: Good bands, Plenty of space
- Cons: little claustophobic
can you say Snobs?

I guess I'm not "emo" enough for this place. I go here 8+ times a month but still get fronted at the bar cause I'm not wearing Chuck Taylors. Get over yourselves! I like good music too! Cool place though. Bring back Liberty Lunch!
- Pros: good music, good looking girls
- Cons: snobs, snobs at front bar, more snobs
Not for those with pace makers...

Emo's is one of my favorite places. I've spent many a drunken night trolleying from Emo's to Casino's & back. They feature great live music from local & touring bands.
