Terrible Service - Neglected Customers

by Cailin09

We arrived to Peche at 8pm. It was half empty. We thought great, we would eat fast and meet our friends for drinks elsewhere. The waitress took our drinks order pretty promptly. I got a MaiTai and my husband got a Manhattan (was good). The Mai Tai was bitter (too much lime and not enough pineapple). We ordered appetizers, which took a very long time -Sliders very tasty, Crab, Half burger and and Pork on French bread . All were very good. We then were told that our entre would be coming soon. We waited until 10pm and no entre. Even worse than that, the waitress brought food to our table but messed up, came back took the food to another table. I heard the table behind say they would just get the check and leave, and not wait any longer. The waitress told us five times "your order will be here soon I promise". It never came. We couldn't even get her attention to get the bill until 10pm. The owner walked around the restaurant, but didn't even acknowledge us or the other tables that were waiting so long. It was pure neglect. Undoubtly, the worse service we have ever had in Austin.

  • Pros: Didn't have any!
  • Cons: Bad service, Neglect.

Austin's first absinthe bar brings old school cocktails and French bistro fare to the Warehouse district.

by Contributor

In Short
The old Malaga space has been transformed with black chandeliers, a bottle-filled bar area accented by rolling metal ladders and color splashes of green (a given considering the lounge's featured libation). The focus here is on the classic cocktails, including their signature absinthe cocktail poured from ornate glass dispensers at the bar. Sample what the menu calls the first American cocktail, a Sazerac, or the first cocktail created for a woman, a Pink Lady. Keep the spins at bay with a sampling from the bistro-style menu: hand cut pomme frites with aioli, mussels in absinthe tarragon broth, fried frog legs with buffalo sauce, Monte Cristo or croque madame sandwiches, and classic coq au vin.

Great martinis and entertainment!

by veeh

There is a reason why this place gets crowded and the that reason would be the Spazmatics on Wednesday night! Other than the Spazmatics, the best bartender in Austin works here and his name would be Sanchez! Find him and you will never opt for another bartender ever. Just tell him what flavors you like and he'll craft the perfect martini for you. Some of my favorite drinks (the 'Marilyn Monroe' and 'Berry Shizzle') were made up by him and can't not walk down 4th street without stopping by to get one before the night is over!

The atmosphere is chill on nights other than Wednesday. If you're ever on 4th, don't pass up this bar!

  • Pros: Custom tailored martinis to your taste, chill on nights other than Wednesdays
  • Cons: Cougar night on Wednesday! Come early on Wed if you want a good seat

Tasty Drinks!

by astro09

OMG The martinis are amazing here, and if you don't know which one to get (there is a HUGE list..), you can just tell the bartender what flavors you like and he will craft one that suits your taste. The martinis are strong and perfect. I really love this place and there is great music on Wednesday nights when the Spazmatics perform!

  • Pros: AWESOME martinis!!!
  • Cons: Gets crowded, $5 Cover

Some people are jerks

by douche911

I love this bar. Everybody who works at this bar has always been very nice and helpful. After watching the staff have to deal with grown men and women who are so drunk that they can hardly stand, I feel for them. People who work at bars work long hours for spotty pay and constantly have to deal with rude, disrespectful people, who seem to think the world revolves around them. I have seen people openly insult doormen, who are trying to help them. I have also seen drunk patrons curse at bartenders and act like children. Bar jobs are hard jobs and it is unfortunate that so many people are incapable of being human beings to the people who have to serve them.

Cedar Street is my favorite bar downtown!! Live music every night in the open courtyard makes for a great atmosphere. The drinks are top notch and the bartenders definitly know how to serve up a good time! By far the best place to go for a night out! Haven't seen a friendlier door staff anywhere in Austin -- A+++

  • Pros: Ambience, Staff is very friendly, Great live music
  • Cons: Can get crowded on Spazmatics night!!!!

great service and drinks!

by 123smith

Me and my girls go down to cedar street every chance we can on Wednesdays and sometimes on Thursdays also. the door guys have always been courteous to us, but then again we haven't been the people who are standing in front of the bar and slam our glasses into another patron's forehead.

our service is always wonderful, it gets really pack in there and I have seen those crazy waitresses go through the windows to get us our drinks. oh man the spazmatics are the best.

also I may have to say that there are some pretty hot bartenders down there.

  • Pros: hot staff and hotter customers
  • Cons: too many ridiculous drunks

not so great.

by jeniwalkofsky

This used to be my most favorite place to go on wed nights. All of the sudden this bar took a dive into suckville. The air conditioning broke.. and it smelled disgusting! The drinks became weaker, and one night out of the blue the cover went up. I'm not going to pay more money to hang out w/ a bunch of sweaty hogs and rude bar staff....I haven't been back and have no desire to do so.

  • Pros: spazmatics
  • Cons: BAR STAFF. DRINKS.

Absolutely RUDE and INCONSIDERATE bar staff!

by homeis237

One of the girls in my bachelorette party was getting sick right around closing time. As I was trying to help her and get her out of the bathroom (apparently we weren't moving fast enough for the bar staff), one of those jerks (after threatening to do so) turned the lights off on us in the bathroom. So in pitch black darkness, I was trying to clean up my friend and get us out of the bathroom. Thanks Cedar Street for showing my out of town guests total disrespect. This bar is lucky that we didn't injure ourselves due to their carelessness and stupidity or you would be hearing from a lawyer. Don't waste your time with this bar. After taking your money for hours and hours, they'll treat you and your guests like DIRT at closing time.
