Wake up shoppers
by adw3566
I'm an Austin native and a long-time customer of Emerald's. The only comment I have to make about the statements regarding customer service issues is that it seems the attitude of the clientele has drastically changed over he past several years. Many of those from Houston, Dallas. etc. now making their shopping trips in a city that was for so long snubbed as being a hippie town are expecting their crappy attitudes to warrant great customer service. The people at this store have always been kind and helpful, but I also believe you attract whatever behavior you receive from others So, either go back to your Gucci and Fendi stores or take a look in the mirror before you pass judgment on a store that has been here long before you ever cared to notice.
- Pros: Great selections, prices
Looking for a sassy party dress with some hot little heels to match? This is a good place to start.

In Short
"Yes" reads the neon sign at Emeralds' entrance--and yes, they have just about everything. Don't be surprised to find a $50 shirt next to a $250 dress in the color-coded racks of clothing from BCBG, French Connection, Corey Lynn Calter, Michael Stars, Killah and Volcom. Shoes are from Diesel, Enzo and Steve Madden. Glass display cases are stocked with jewelry from local artists like Laurel Larsen and stained glass from Stonehouse Gallery.
sub-par

i was expecting more from emeralds. i agree with the other reviewer that the customer service really sucks. i hate to drop money on clothes where the girls working there won't even get off the phone long enough with their friends to see if i need any help. they have a really great nick-nack selection much better than their clothes which seem like last years dregs or something they got 1/2 price off of bluefly in super small sizes (i'm saying this and i'm a size 6 if that tells you anything). as they say they carry good designers just not the best lines. if you're desperate for "high fashion" and want to stay away from the mall then shop at emeralds. if not buy exactly what you want off line instead of settling for sub-par selection and service.
- Pros: nice nick-nack select, centrally located
- Cons: poor customer service, bad size selection
consistently bad

Funny- reading the reviews of this store for the last few years... it looks like the customer service has stayed consistently bad... and the store has remained perpetually cluttered. At least some things don't change!
- Pros: consistently bad, dress in window, little puppy inside
- Cons: no parking, too expensive, cluttered
Emeralds

Emeralds is a cute shop with a variety of cards, stationary, clothing, jewelry, and whatever else you could possibly imagine. However, the customer service was awful - the sales staff seems rather snotty - and I will probably not be back.
- Pros: Variety
Great Service !

I was in Austin for a funeral last Friday and I stopped in the store and the staff was so helpful and friendly. I always make a point to stop by the store when in town. I love the card and gift selection. The clothes are a little young but shoe selection is fab.
- Pros: Great selection, Friendly staff, Fun store
love the selection

I try to visit this store every few weeks. When I don't I definately miss out on getting a really cool pair of shoes in my size. I wish they would stock a larger quantity of their merchandise. I found a great sweater there a few weeks agao and the VERY NICE sales woman said it was the last small size in stock. They had just received the item a few days before. She really wanted the sweater too. She was so nice, I felt guilty for taking it. She is definately the exception to most of the sales staff I have encountered here. Most seem snobbish and pre-occupied.
- Pros: selection, shoes!!!!, low stock?
- Cons: not much parking, pricey, some staff are rude
better things to do?

I frequent Emeralds because they have nice merchandise & the occasional good shoe sale. The staff leaves something to be desired, however. When a boutique is that pricy, I would expect the employees to be helpful and professional. Instead it's as though they have something to prove, carrying about this snooty attitude. I was there last Saturday evening (well before close) while a friend of mine and another woman waited to be checked out while the two employees were elsewhere in the store, stocking shoes (one) and ribbon (the other) for about 10 minutes before they finally deigned to come over. Then, when my friend presented her card to be stamped for not taking a shopping bag, the cashier promptly bagged her shoes, and said "have a nice night," the first and last words she spoke during the transaction. For 75$ shoes, I'll go somewhere with a little less attitude.
- Pros: Clothing Selection, Shoe Selection
- Cons: Service, Size Consistency
Great for gifts!

Emeralds offers such a wide array of unique items that are great for gift giving. Check them out next time you're looking for something to give to that someone who has it all.
