I have used Ace Tailors several times, mostly because it was convenient and I didn't know where else to go. I have experienced many of the same problems as other reviewers. They take forever to finish jobs (I think because they agree to take on too much, then underestimate the time to return items), and last time I went they could not seem to locate my item. They put me on hold forever, then said they would call me back and never did. Their prices are also ridiculous. Last time I went, they charged me $20 to hem a pair of pants. Pants that weren't even lined!! There was nothing different or unique about these pants for them to charge $20. And as though it's not already obvious, their customer "service" is horrible. They don't seem to care whether they do a good job or have your alterations done when they say they will, which is important if you need the alterations done for something like an interview or event. You just can't rely on them to have them completed by the time they say they will. And even then, you may get your item back and still need additional alterations because the work is so bad. STAY AWAY!!
Pros: what pros?
Cons: lousy customer service, lousy work, lousy prices

I have been to Ace Tailors several times after recommendations from friends and have made a resolution to find a new tailor! First problem: They very rarely agree to tailor my clothes. Of the four dresses I have asked them to take in, they have done 2 (and very poorly). After trying them on and pointing out that I needed the sides taken in, they told me it would be too hard to do and wouldn't really be possible! One dress was an expensive, straight fitting shift dress that was just too big. (I wear a 2-4) They told me they couldn't take it in b/c it didn't have side pleats (it had pleats at the bust only), and I thought "You're a tailor! Put in pleats!" I guess they don't know how? Another dress had an empire waist, I wanted it taken in along the side seems below the empire waist, and they claimed they couldn't without messing up the dress. Another dress had an asymetrical hem that I wanted taken in to be a straight hem. They said they couldn't do that b/c it was top-stitched. If ever they agree to tailor any of my clothes, they do nothing more than I could've done myself w/ a sewing machine and send the clothes back to me looking almost identical to how I bought them.
Pros: good location
Cons: terrible service, lack of know-how

I've been going to Ace Tailors (mainly the Downtown location) for years and have always had great service; Josie and other staff members are extremely friendly. The turnaround time on my clothes has been very reasonable.
Pros: fast turnaround time, great customer service

Came here on a recommendation from an acquaintance after first moving to Austin. I wouldn't even trust them to hem pants after my experience. They nearly ruined a $2000 Dolce & Gabbana suit that I needed altered. I had to have a new tailor reconstruct it--Ace left it with four less buttons, incorrectly fitted in both jacket and pants, and an actual rip in the inseam. I would never go back, even to have jeans hemmed. After talking with friends, I've discovered this type of service is common at Ace's.
Pros: none
Cons: will ruin clothes, no respect for customers wishes, unwilling to fix mistakes

I brought three different pairs of jeans in to this location, plopped them on the counter, and begged for help. One was hemmed horribly by another tailor; one was brand new and 7" too long; one I had worn a huge hole right through the butt. Not a problem for the folks at Ace. They fixed the horrible job done on the first, put a great "original hem" on the new jeans, and patched the hole on the third -- which I did not even know was an option! Consistently considerate service - they even got it all done in RECORD time so that I was able to take my jeans on a long trip..... BRAVO, Ace Tailors.
Pros: considerate, professional, skillful

I have used Ace Tailors for a bridesmaid dress alteration and a fancy jean hem. I have had great results from the 12th and Lamar Ace location. The staff is friendly and the work has always been completed in a timely fashion.
Pros: central location, friendly staff
Cons: don't always call when work is completed

They kind of ruined the look of a very cute jumper....they passed me off by saying they thought it looked really cute. one pant is bigger than the other. i could have done what they did. it cost me quite a bit and i was pretty unsatisfied. the worst was telling me it would be done a week after i dropped it off, and then telling me they didn;t get to it, on monday. then on tuesday when i called they said they would call back and no call, finally on wednesday they said it was ready the day before...so irritating!!!!!

I gave them 3 days to do a simple hem. I realized too late on the day I asked for it that they had not called. The next day I called, they said they had it done...and then they said they didn't. They seemed disinterested that they had not finished my hem and didn't even seem to be able to locate my item. The girl handling my call was very confused (but not apologetic) and it took 5 minutes for me to find out what was going on. They managed to get it done that day after I argued with them. When I picked it up, it was $18! For a 1/2 inch hem, completed a day late?!? Never again!
Cons: bad service, over-priced

I started using Ace when I had some serious alteration needs, i.e., taking in dresses and jackets. They do great on that stuff, but then I started taking them simple hem jobs. I've taken my own dresses, skirts, and pants, and my husband's dress pants and khaki's. At last count, something like 9 out of 13 hems have fallen out!! And for this I paid $12 or $15 a hem?! NEVER AGAIN!
Pros: good for complicated
Cons: all hems fall out!!, expensive
