One more thing

I would be lying if I said often times I don't wonder if I made the wrong decision ending things the way I did with the Kitchen Door but in my heart of hearts I know they left me with no choice. And its hard to stick with it as I drive by it every days. Some days are harder than others. Like today when I went home and ate my leftover pizza from last night a part of me yearned for a divine turkey cheese sandwich servedon soft homemade white bread with lettuce, tomato, and spicey mustard blend followed up by a dense chocolate cupkae with cream cheese-choc chip center. BUT I WILL NEVER NEVER GO BACK. EVERYONE AT THAT PLACE HAS IT OUT FOR ME
Terrible service by Manager
by tigercat6
I went with friends for lunch and it was not good. The sandwiches took forever, like 20 minutes, to receive and they screwed up my order and the manager was extremely rude and dismissive. Don't waste your time if you have a limited time to eat lunch. The food was not as good as the other location either. Go figure. For the price, you might as well go to Thundercloud or Whole Foods for a better deal on a sandwich.
- Pros: None: it was hot, no parking, rude staff, so-so food.
- Cons: Everything. There are too many good restaurants to waste your money at this dump.
Inconsistent sandwich size
by discusman1
The Kitchen Door offers tasty sandwiches with my favorites being the chicken salad and meatloaf. Unfortunately the last few times I've had the bad luck of my sandwich being made from the small end of the bread loaf. The large pieces of homemade bread are a significant part of what can be a wonderful sandwich. For years I've enjoyed large, filling, delicious sandwiches. It is such a let down to receive these smaller sandwiches that I don't think I'll return. It's worth a try if you are not expecting a large sandwich, but if you go with large expectations...........beware.
- Pros: Very tasty food
- Cons: inconsistent sandwich size, small parking lot
Best place in Austin!

I have been eating at the Kitchen Door for years now and I have to say it is the best!!! I can't quite deside which item is #1 on my list.... You can never go wrong with the meatloaf sandwich at the Lake Austin store and the chicken salad sandwich is to die! The hot lunch entrees at the Far West store are always delicious! And then there's the desserts.... Between the cookies, the cream cheese brownies and the chocolate mousse pie it's a tough choice. But the best thing is that you can now shop in the boutique at the Lake Austin store. Unbelievable finds! Love it!
- Pros: EVERYTHING!
An old-timey deli just off Mopac on scenic Lake Austin.

In Short
The little store, complete with a deli glass case filled with an array of spreads and salads, is reminiscent of cafes that dot small European cities. There's tuna salad studded with chopped eggs and diced celery and served on soft white bread, with lettuce, tomato and spicy mustard. A bowl of creamy pimento cheese is accentuated with specks of sweet red bell pepper. Farm cake is a dense, chocolate cupcake with cream cheese-chocolate chip center.

the chicken salad has msg
the bread and most pastries are made with hydrogenated vegetable shortening
Overrated
by miserycreek
The sandwich was overpriced and the counter person was one of the rudest and most dismissive people I've dealt with in 20 years of living in Austin. You can be treated like crap at any number of places and spend less money for the same quality. I say avoid like the plague.
Great Food!

The sandwiches are great. Especially enjoy the hot sandwiches and the chicken salad sandwich.
- Pros: good value, fresh bread
Best Homemade Bread
by das_ding
I love their sandwiches and soups, both locations are equally good. Their kolaches and muffins are a perfect finishing touch for you lunch. The only con would be both locations are more of a take-out place. There are a few chairs/tables at each location, but don't count on one being available during lunch time.
- Pros: Homemade Bread, Pastries, Premade dinner items
- Cons: Parking during lunch, closed on Sundays, minimal seating
