We popped in to catch the LSU vs N. Texas game and the USC game too last weekend. Very crowded but we showed up as the game started. Luckily we squeezed into a table in the front room as it just came open as we were about to leave.

One waitress working many, many tables. We had to ask for more water, silverwear, napkins, forgotten side dishes. I mean, she was a sweetheart and we knew she had waaay to many tables. Cheap owners is what that equates to. Too bad because had she come over more often we would have ordered more beer.

The food was good though - fries, mini burgers (although overcooked were still tastey) and some other apps. All good at an ok price. A little high on a few items.

Clean beer glasses would have been nice but we knew we'd never see the waitress again sice our pitcher sat for 5 minutes before the glasses arrived...so we cleaned then on the 1 napkin we stole from a neighbor and limes.

Many of the smaller mounted TV's were in bad shape and you could barely see. If I come to watch a game I want to go somewhere that has all their equipment in shape. Only the large screens looked good.

Worst part is you see the sign "Now with A/C" but it sure didn't feel like it. We sweated so much it was ridiculous.

I can't see us going back.

This place has the BEST Honey Mustard ever for dipping, spreading, etc. I had some sort of Hawaiian BBQ Burger with a big pineapple slice on it, along with BBQ sauce and bacon. Yum. The serveress was quick and friendly, and the place is cool. The rest of the menu looks good too. My date had Mac and Cheese, and it was actually cheesy, versus the cheese-like liquid that is on most restauraunts Mac and Cheese. I'd recommend it.

This is an awesome bar. I heard that it used to have problems with staff and food but that was long ago. The only problem there now is one of the owners.... Stan. Is a drunk and likes to hang out there and give the staff grief and everyone that goes there knows it. But... for those who don't know or care about the Stan Chronicles, this place is awesome. Great Food, Awesome Bar and Lots of fun! "THE" place to watch a UT game or any other game for that matter. They have like 60 something plasma TV's but at the same time, the old two story house has the feel of an old pub, and it's a great place for friends. Even those who aren't into the sports bar scene will like it because it doesn't feel like a regular sports bar. Wait staff is great, bartenders are awesome and the Burger is the best in Austin. I think it got ranked second this past year, right behind Sullivans!!! Check it out. It's much improved from it's old self and a great place all around. And Stan... buddy... Go Home and stay home. Other owners... I would put a leash on your alcoholic pet if I was you. He is the only problem you got. Bye Bye Stan.... lol.

  • Pros: GREAT FOOD, Great Bartenders
  • Cons: Stan

In Short
A classic neon sign advertises that this two-story half-timbered faux chalet is air-conditioned. Past the green-and-white exterior sits a graffiti-marked bar and a jukebox offering everything from James Brown to Pearl Jam. This dive, which dates back to the Prohibition era, is the headquarters for virtually every sports fan club in town, but also offers video games, pool tables, pinball for those who have little interest for that sort of thing.

Any time we get a chance to go to The Tavern we go. The food is great just like the service. The atmosphere to watch your favorite football team play or after a game with friends or family, you cant beat it. From the Host to the Bartender, it is 2 thumbs up! Now people can go and celebrate the World Cup there!!! Go USA!!!

We got terrible serivce and were way over charged on our bar tab. If you want to get ripped off, this place is for you. WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!!! Don't bother asking to talk to a Manager either. Those people DON'T CARE.

I have heard this place is haunted. Maybe we were waited on by the ghost. She brought our food and then disapeared never to be seen again. We had to flag down another server just to get napkins and utensils while our food got cold.

The food was out of this world or not of this one. The fried fish was soggy, and runny.

Speaking of sprits, she showed up just prior to end of meal to inquire if I wanted another drink to which I replied yes. Well it must have disapeared on the way from the bar to the table as it never arrived.

My dining companion ordered a plain baked potato only to have it served with all the sides which he was also charged for.

There are TVs everywhere and the noise level inside is unbearable. This is my first and LAST time dining at this establishment.

  • Cons: no parking, poor service, bad food

Just wanted to give my favorable review to the very friendly staff at Tavern. My girlfriend and I coincidentally found ourselves in Austin on July 25, the last day of the Tour de France. After coffee at Seattle's Best, we got referred to the Tavern. With coffee in hand, we went entered the Tavern to find dozens of flat panel screens tuned to TDF. The wait staff was completely cool to us -- we didn't spend a dime, and yet we received nothing but courteousy in return. This isn't to suggest you loiter at the Tavern. To the contrary, come unwind and spend some cash. You'll enjoy it. If they were this friendly to us, imagine how well they will treat paying customers.

  • Pros: LOTS of TVs, Indoor and Outdoor, Friendly Service

The Tavern has fantastic food. The chicken fried steak can satisfy two people! The wait staff is gracious and concerned about the patrons. The management makes sure everyone is satisfied.

Again a great place to go if you are really hungry!

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Great Parking, Always crowded
