AMAZING FOOD!
by austinfooddork
the new chef they hired is fantastic. the new menu is exciting and delicious. this place used to be so over rated but i am happy to report that jeffreys is back!
favs on the menu:
new fried oysters, awesome pate and cheese plate, thumbalina or st johns salad, cauliflower soup with poached oysters!, and amazing scallops.
and at half price bar apps from 5-7, this is an elegant place to visit for those in the know.
- Pros: great new menu! local and classic.
- Cons: never saw a manager
Portions way too small
by ygs6
While I found the atmosphere above average and the food delicious, the portions are tiny and not worth the price. I would be happy to pay above average prices if I felt that the portions were adequate. We were with a group party and some of people were going to stop and pick up a burger on the way home. At $65 price tag per person no one should have left hungry!!
- Pros: ambiance
- Cons: portion size
The reputation is the only good thing about this place
by Gixxed
My wife and I decided to go to the infamous Jeffery's restuarant for our 5th wedding anniversary because of the longtime fantastic reputation this place has. We drove up, and I kept checking the Navi to make sure we were at the right place because it is NOT in a very nice part of town. We found it and pulled up to the valet, very prompt and courteous. We walked into this hole in the wall looking place hoping for some incredicle decor, well this is what I saw: 12 tables in a tiny room, with very old looking floors, black drop ceiling tiles from the 70, pictures of what looked liked George Washington and wood paneling along the walls to match. We sat down still waiting to be impressed, and we immediatly noticed that we could hear every conversation in the room because it was so small. You cannot have a private conversation without whispering. We started with appettizers, fried oysters and the quail, both which were mediorce. We ordered the tenderloin and ahi tuna for dinner, while we were waiting we ordered a few martini's. Drinks were good, but at $11 per drink its pretty steep. We ordered another round and they took about 20min, paying that much at a fancier restuarant they should have arrived much sooner. The waiter did apologize and comp'd one of them. We got our dinners, and the steak was decent, perfectly cooked and had a tasty brown sauce to it, nothing fantastic. I had the Ahi, and it was pretty good but it should have knocked my socks off for the price. Dessert was akin to a Hostess cupcake, I'm not kidding. Want to know about the bathrooms? Think 70's, nasty flooring, sludge covered pipes, door lock that was rigged. I just can't believe how poorly this place is put together. They are a perfect candidate for an Xtreme home makeover, only problem is that they are probably making money hand over fist.
Our first impression was , valet was prompt, and hostess was prompt to seat us(w/reservations). Firs
- Pros: I can now say I went there, thats it.
- Cons: Lousy atmosphere, tables too close, food too $$$, wait until you go home to poo <shivers>
Great Place for Special Occasions!!
by PflugerPfriends
Jeffrey's is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. The atmosphere is intimate without being fussy. We have lived in Austin for almost 10 years and we just went to Jeffrey's to celebrate my husband's birthday. My only regret was that we did not discover this place sooner. This was the best selection we could have made: the wait staff was extremely attentive and the food was even better!! We will certainly be going back soon.
- Pros: Wonderful Service, Great Food, Attentive Wait Staff, Atmosphere
- Cons: a little pricey but well worth it!!
Sinful Crispy Oysters!!
by kqh
My husband and I eat here every New Years Eve or special occasion. They have the best Crispy Oysters in town! We have to order one for each of us. Thanks for making this our special place. I highly recommend Jeffrey's to anyone looking for a unique, upscale restaurant in Austin.

by robinsok

Top restaurant with jeans
by steveo45
Jeffrey's is a great local restaurant where you can get by in jeans and still get great service! Everything on the menu is first rate.
Impeccable service
by shirleyannen
Customer service is top-notch, as the waiters are very cordial and attentive yet not overbearing. Food is wonderful, especially the chef's course. Seared foie gras is prepared perfectly; lamb chops are not overseasoned or overcooked; desserts are simple yet divine. Although very busy and neighboring tables (limited elbow space) can get quite noisy, not once did we feel as if we were being rushed to finish.
- Pros: Great service; Great menu
- Cons: Limited parking; Tight quarters
Consistency Problems? Perhaps, but not this night...
by madhij88
Our dinner guests had eaten at Jeffrey's a couple of weeks earlier and were appalled. (Their words). They went through great effort to talk us out of going there. But we did. Our plan was to go Bistro 88 (read my comments on it), but it lost its best waiter, so we decided to settle on the old standby for excellent service and food. And I am very relieved and happy to say that we received excellent food and service at Jeffrey's. Indeed, our doubtful guests could hardly believe they were at the same restaurant. I have read some of the reviews of Jeffrey's, and it seems that there is a consistency problem. I hope they take care of it, because Jeffrey's is an Austin gem. It has always been the "no-brainer" of where to take out-of-towners to be impressed. On this night, everything was seemingly flawless. I encourage whoever goes there to involve the manager if their service or food is subpar. Let them know.
- Pros: Great Food and Service
- Cons: Consistency issues?
When you hear its great and its Not.
by psimon
For years its reputation has continued to carry it along. That day is gone. Chef, your menu is longer up to par even with the touted rotation. With so many options in Austin, Jeffery's has lost is stride. The food is still ok but not really worth the bother anymore. Mainly the silver queen and walker set now. And avoid this place like the plague when lobbyists and legislators are in town. By the way, buy water here-don't drink the tap! And, get some new CARPETand furniture, truly this is EMBARASSING when someone is bringing friends to Jeffery's!
- Pros: You can say you tried it.
- Cons: You will admit it wasn't great.
