An Austin dive bar extraordinaire with cheap beer and a jukebox that makes everybody happy.

In Short
The building that houses Deep Eddy Cabaret was built in the 1920s and served as a grocery store-bait shop until it was turned into a beer joint in 1951. Most people here order Lone Star--pitchers can be had for $5.50. With five songs for $1, 11 for $2, or 30 for a fiver, you can hear artists as diverse as Elvis Costello and Elvis Presley or Jimmy Cliff and Edith Piaf. Follow Frank Sinatra with the 13th Floor Elevators, they're all there.
Not like every other bar

So the prices of Lonestar pitchers have gone up to $5.80, but who's gonna cry about 30 cents? The bartenders are awesome and don't complain when you ask them for quarters repeatedly. They have two pool tables for 50 cents a game.. And they have hands down one of the best jukeboxes in town. Just a word of warning though, the Otis Redding is mislabeled, if you try to play Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay, you will end up playing Tramp, a song which has grown on me because of that common mistake. It's a quirky, fun place, and there are a couple of picnic tables outside for those of us who enjoy a few carcinogens with our ice cold beer. If you like to kick back, drink some cold beer with some cool people, head on over.

They still sell Pearl Beer - enough said!
Great place to go and pretend like you've been in Austin all your life.
First time there!

I have never heard of this bar. I went in with my friend, who is a close friend of one of the bartenders. I grew up in a small town with small bars like this one. It was refreshing to go into a laid back atmosphere. It felt like I was in a bar back home. Way to go Deep Eddy!! I will be going back!
- Pros: atmosphere, cheap pictures, good music
a top 10 dive bar

I just moved to the neighborhood a few months ago and started stopping by this place for a beer. It quickly became a favorite with my friends as the perfect place to start the night or to end it. Although the Golden Tee line is a bit long sometimes. You can over look that by just ordering another pitcher of that Golden Nautural Light......
- Pros: Cheap Beer, Good mixed crowd, Board games to borrow
- Cons: Smokey when crowded, No Liquor
