Amazing instructors and facilities!
by PhilinAustin
I had been looking for a place to take some pottery courses and heard about The Art School from a friend who is a recreational potter. I'm so glad he told me about it! The instructor, Eric Jackson, is a real treat. He does great work and really cares about his students. He is as hands-off or hands-on as you want him to be.
My wife got a little jealous of my new hobby and decided to try some painting classes. With the help of her teacher (Wade? I think), she's really done some impressive work (especially for a beginner).
This place is great. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!
- Pros: great teachers, great course selection
- Cons: none that i can think of right now
Nice to look at

Good art instructors, very poor management.
Hard to give an honest critique when several instructors have lost their jobs for doing just that. $$$$$$$
- Pros: beautiful surroundings
- Cons: expensive and caters to the wealthy
This site is a full-time art school and attraction since there's a main branch downtown.

In Short
This art center and school, sitting on a bluff overlooking Lake Austin, features a permanent collection of local artists and faculty. It's housed in an Italian villa built in 1916 at the foot of Mount Bonnell and is distinguished by a number of monumental sculptures on its grounds. Not only does this museum showcase a variety of artistic expressions, it also hosts public studio classes such as in ceramics and photography throughout the year.
