A Very Austin Place

Chuy's is a great place to eat for anyone new to Austin (and is tired of eating BBQ). The restaurant itself is like a 50's diner meets Tex-Mex and is decorated so that the place sreams "Elvis!" Just like how the singer was great, the food served is great as well. There are so many great items to recommend, that I say go there yourself and you will definitely find something that yout like. You also have the option of enjoying this food outside as well. Of course, such a great price comes with the price of a great amount of time to wait to get seated. But people still come back, and you should check the place out and find out for yourself why.
- Pros: Great food and awesome decorations
- Cons: Long wait

I'm confused what the big deal is about. The food is good, definitely not great. We asked for their spiciest salsa only to find out we were already eating it (come on, this is Texas, we like spicy). Nothing was bad, but definitely not worth the hour wait. I think it's just the trendy place to go. There are plenty of restaurants with better, cheaper food and shorter waits.
Best in Texas!

I have been going to Chuy's ever since I was a little girl and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Mexican Food. It is one of my favorite resaturants! They're queso is amazing also!!! And it's not even that expensive.

I've been eating Mexican and Tex Mex for over 40 years in Houston, Dallas Ft. Worth,, San Antonio, Austin and a lot sof smaller towns all over the state. I'd rate Chuy's in the top 5 of all of them. The food was great, service was outstanding and although the price was a couple of dollars more than I normally pay at the majority of the other places the quantity was also greater. I was surprised at how busy it was at 4:30PM on a Friday but we didn't have any problem getting a seat right away.
Good times....

If you want to have a little fun with a whole lot of energy then this is the place to go. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed with families and college students. The wait for a table was 45 minutes long but, it wasn't too bad considering there was a self-serve chips and salsa bar and you could order drinks before your meal. It was fast and easy! Before too long, (or was it?) we were at our table ordering our food. The food was really good and the service was great, thanks to Jimmy G. a.k.a. "Nancy". I was torn to get a salad and had ordered the "Chicka-chicka Boom-boom" instead and the sauce is so good! Creamy and rich but, the cilantro and lime give it a fresh appeal and cuts the creamy-richness in half. The chicken inside was lean and flavorful and without the "icky-chicken" taste. The desert I had was recommended by our server, a mexican cake, was excellent and something I had never had! After all of that wonderfully loud food, it cooled and calmed my palate and made everything so satisfying, even though I was so full from my entree! My only complaint would be that the food is a bit salty and would like it to be toned down especially for the children's menu.
- Pros: High energy, tasty margaritas and tortilla chips.
- Cons: It was a little warm inside and the food was salty (salsa, beans and children's mini tacos).
Not going back

The only thing that keeps this place in business is its local charm. I watched 6 tables that came in AFTER me be seated varying from 2-4 person parties. I had a party of two. The hostesses are all high-school girls, and that's exactly how the place is run. I was given a cup of water which was half-full when I got my meal, and I didn't see my server (who appeared to be stoned off her a$$ the entire time) again. It wasn't until I finished my meal that I got a refill. The food was just as lousy as something I'd expect from Taco Cabana. If you're a local Austin half-baked-hipster, you'll love it because it's sooooo Austin. If you have any taste, I'd advise spending your money elsewhere.
- Pros: They serve food
- Cons: Everything else

I have tried in vain to find a better Tex-Mex joint. This is the best there is period. Consistent, tastey and quick (once you get a seat). Well worth the wait.
- Pros: Best Tex Mex there is
- Cons: There is a wait. The decor is unique but cheesy

Chuy's is one of my favorite places. The food is fantastic. The decor is fun and funky. The service is always pretty good. The margaritas are to die for. My only complaint is that it is often over an hour wait to get a table.

The best Tex-Mex in the city! I have always had superb service and wonderful food at Chuy's. Been going there for 15 years and would highly recommend them to anyone! If you are going on the weekend, get there early or be ready to wait a while. They are POPULAR! Usual wait is about an hour or so on Friday and Saturday night. Definitely worth the wait...have some chips, salsa and a margarita and relax.
Not so good....

I've given Chuy's two or three chances since living in Austin and have never had a good meal there. Not to mention - do they buy their margarita mix from a liquor store? It tastes like that stuff you buy off a shelf? What about real lime juice?
I usually get cheese enchiladas and I'm pretty picky about them. They weren't good at all. They were so dry, it was awful. I think this place has history in Austin and that's what people like. It's a great place for kids, but not when you're looking for good food. I couldn't believe they didn't have black beans! What the? Don't think I'll be going back unless I have to :-(
- Pros: Fun environment, good service
- Cons: Food/Margs not so good
Get the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken

Love the food. Very delicious and inexpensive. I would recommend the fried chicken. Fried chicken in general has been my absolute favorite since I was a kid, so I can safely say with confidence that this is the BEST fried chicken ever! I also go to Chuy's in Houston and San Antonio for it.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Don't know yet...
