Fantastic Nursing Support

I learned of Special Addition after giving birth at Seton - I was looking for a place to rent a clean, safe breastmilk pump. Not only did I find a great Medela Lactina pump that worked perfectly for me, but a great source of support from their staff. I had a tough time with nursing, and popped in from time to time to get advice from their lactation consultants on staff as well as weigh my baby before and after a feed to see how much he was taking in. Do take advantage of their scales and expert advice - they welcome it in the name of encouraging breastfeeding. I also was in the area a couple of times and needed somewhere to nurse my son, and they were more than welcoming of me to use their very comfortable and clean nursing room. That was SO helpful for me when I was out and about and Baby started screaming for some milk - I didn't have time to make it home, but did have time to duck in there. Whew!

I recommend this store highly - drop by when you get time and meet their super knowledgeable and helpful staff.

Great lactation consultants/selection of products...Rude owner

I have visited Special Addition several times over the course of three pregnancies. The lactation consultants are so wonderful and helpful and the store carries many hard to find products for maternity and nursing. This would be a five star review if based only on LCs and products carried by the store.

Unfortunately I met the owner on my last visit. I came in looking for a specific maternity product (only sold by Special Addition in the Austin area). The owner bad mouthed the product, tried to sell me an extremely uncomfortable product at twice the cost, and made rude comments about my body in the dressing room. After I told her that I was not carrying multiples but I was having my third child, she said "well, the old body just isn't what it used to be."

The owner should refrain from making tactless comments about the bodies of her customers. She should really consider staying off the sales floor. Based on the owner's abrasive manner, this would be a zero star review.

Best place for slings & nursing products

I love this place - a lot of wonderful women who will take a lot of time with you. Also, you can come back and ask more questions. For nursing moms - they can fit your ever-changing breasts into a comfy bra. Excellent support with breast pumps. They'll give multiple lessons with slings - as your baby grows you can return for new helpful hints.
