CURRAS GRILL IS ONE THE MY FAVORITE PLACES FOR GREAT MEXICAN FOOD, I ALSO AM A FAN OF THEIR DELICIOUS AVACADO MARGARITAS THEY ARE SUPER YUMMY, AND REFRESHING, I USUALY HAVE ENCHILADAS , OR TRY A NEW APPETIZER, THE CEVICHE WAS A LITTLE DRY AND COULD OF USED MORE LIME, BUT OTHER THAN THAT I LOVE THIS PLACE!!

Pros: FABULOUS AVACADO RITAS AND SUPER TASTY FOOD!

Cons: DRY CEVICHE

This restaurant is not much to look at and even the menus seem about 20 years old but the food is just really good. A lunch special of pork flautas was crispy and full of flavor. A pork dish wrapped in banana leaf was so tender and flavorful served with amazing plantains. Lamb empenadas were crispy with a nice filling. Great Salsa. Great churas which are pinto beans with bacon. Great meal overall and terrific value

I used to be a south Austin Curra's regular. I loved the food. The service wasn't always great, but that was ok.... until one night. My boyfriend and I were hungry, and went to Curra's. To make a long story short, a waiter seated us after we were ignored for a long time waiting to sit. Then, the manager bitched him out right in front of us for him having sat us. He calmly apologized to her, stating why it seemed ok for him to sit us there. (She had totally ignored us up until that point) We were quite embarrassed, and so was our waiter. We asked him if that was his manager, and we told him we were so sorry that he had to work for someone like that. He told us that not only was she the manager, but she was also the owner. I do not want to support a business that mistreats their employees, especially in such an embarrassing, unprofessional way. There was no need for the owner to yell at our waiter at all, except perhaps for some sense of control or power. I now don't go to Curra's. I miss the food from time to time, but I do not want to give that woman any of my money.

Pros: yummy food.

Cons: the owner is rude to her employees

i like curras, but the food is always different.. sometimes plentiful and delicious, other times lacking and bland. for example, i was excited to try the blackened fish enchaladas with the chipotle cream sauce fot the first time. it was great, but when i got it the second time it just didn't tase anywhere near as good. similar thing with breakfast tacos. one day they are small and the next they are just right... always tasty. the breakfast tacos are great when they're good(does that make sense? i will continue to eat there and take my chances... ) i would discourage vegitarians from going because they like to lie about using chicken stock in the rice. i found out from a server who was reluctant to admit it, but he did. this was after years of being told otherwise. i don't really fault them for lying.. it's mexican food, what do you expect? however if you are going to act like you cater to vegitarians, then you probably should.

Pros: usually good, friendly service

Cons: not for vegitarians, beer isn't free

Wow. Best mexican food I've had in Texas all month. This little unassuming joint of Oltorf, next to a gas station and another mexican place, has spectacular food. If you're vegetarian, you know that vegetarian chorizo is a rarity, and they make it in house. Highly recommended.

Cons: Parking is a hassle at lunch

I have to agree, things have begun to decline at Curra's over the past--oh, 6 months? Especially the one off Oltorf. They fired our favorite bartender, got new menus, raised prices and hired a horrible staff. Last time we were there, our server forgot he had seated us (we flagged another waitress and he apologized for forgetting) and then proceeded to forget we were there again. ?? Up North, the staff is pretty much clueless, as in, never coming by to ask for what you need and never being able to answer questions about the menu. HOWEVER! The food is AMAZING. I've decided to just flag down waiters/waitresses when I need them and forget about the annoying service. ///// The food is a bit better up North. What to get? Cochinita Pibil, Shrimp anything, Tacos al Pastor is a favorite, Colorado Enchiladas. What not to get? House margaritas (get them made fresh instead!). Get ready to ask for what you want, insist on getting it, and enjoy the wonderful meal you're bound to eat. I'll be back as long as the food rocks!

Pros: The food!

My wife and I have been going to Curra's for years, but we've given up and won't be going back. Over the course of several years, the prices have gone up, which is to be expected and not too offensive. But the high pressure up-selling is a turn off. You have to pay for chips, and then the wait staff tries to pile on queso, brand name tequila, and on and on. After three or four "no thanks" you start to feel like a cheapskate. The much bigger problem is the deterioration of service. Two weeks ago (and I'm still mad) five of us went. It took 25 minutes from the time we were seated to get four drinks. It took six more minutes to get the exotic drink (a glass of white wine). From there, things went downhill, with the food arriving a loooong time later in some cases cold and in other cases badly overcooked. The poor waiter was so in the weeds. I told him we were not happy, but no manager ever came to consult with us. There was a line out the door - why provide good food and service if people will come anyway? There are too many good restaurants in our neighborhood for us to put up with a customer-hostile place. This feels like writing a breakup letter...

I have eaten at Curra's Grill twice in the past two years on visits to Austin. Both times the service was excellant. The wait staff was well informed and engaged in thier work. The food was excellant. I don't like to use the word authentic but this is NOT your typical "American" Mexican food. The atmosphere is family friendly and relaxed. Be sure to get there early as the place fills up fast. Locals reccommend Curra's which is a sure sign of it's resilient appeal. I am in fact moving to Austin in a month and Curra's will be a regular haunt.

Pros: Food and wait staff

Cons: Parking
