What's The Deal

by marc1067

This place never fails...I don't know why there is bad reviews...I never have had a bad experience at this wonderful establishment.maybe it all the hipster aspect coming thru the invisible screen that is set up before Fran's(another great place)You come in,wait for Daniel or somebody else to call your name (after you sign in on busy days)get a booth, enjoy the great artwork, with some Delicious Chips and Salsa(which is always good..i would put it up against any other salsa in the city)order your food from the cool menu....service is prompt and always served with a smile by everyday Austinites that are from the city and not dress like the people you see walking around Home Slice or Guerro's.the porions are always huge and the bill is always reasonable.yea I love this place.SUPPORT LOCAL!

  • Pros: everything
  • Cons: hipsters filtering in thru the screen set up by fran's

Go to Galaxy Cafe instead!

by squarah

Magnolia Cafe is one of the most overrated places in Austin. The service is bad, the restaurant is always very dirty, parking is a royal pain, and the food is nothing to write home about. The only thing I would recommend are the pancakes and hibiscus tea, but it's not worth putting up with everything else.

I would, however, strongly recommend Galaxy Cafe. The food is great, it has a really nice atmosphere, the service is fast, and the people who work there don't look like they are in desperate need of a shower like at Magnolia!

  • Pros: good pancakes
  • Cons: bad service, very dirty, mediocre food

Bad tex-mex

by noah717

Let me start off by saying that the service and atmosphere is great. The waitstaff is awesome and other food menu items are tasty. However, I DO NOT recommend the cheese enchiladas. I ordered them and they looked like a plate of slop. The smell made my friend lose his appetite. It seemed as though all they did was take cheap store bought corn tortillas, filled them with cheese, zapped them in a microwave, then poured more cheese over them which made the dish soup enchiladas and popped them in the microwave again. Then added the disgusting mild sauce. The rice and beans had no flavor whatsoever. The best thing I got was a coke! My advice, stick to other items and avoid the tex-mex, unless you are used to crappy tex-mex. But taco bell was like fine dining compared to Magnolia on S. Congress.

  • Pros: awesome waitstaff, nice atmosphere
  • Cons: cheese enchiladas, rice, and beans

The Best Oatmeal...tbdoitl

by merbrenz

This is the greatest atmosphere to enjoy a hot steamy bowl of oatmeal. Additionally, they give you raisins, brown sugar and soy milk! Could life get any better?

  • Pros: inexpensive and healthy
  • Cons: none

Wonderful Local Restaurant

by littlemoresunshine

Magnolia is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The food is **VERY** reasonably priced and the service is pretty good too. There is a lot of selection of food to choose from.

  • Pros: great food, Authentic Austin Experience, great location by So-Co Strip, good variety of food
  • Cons: parking can be difficult, sometimes a wait, service can be so-so at times

My food was great, my friends was overly greasy

by conjunction3

I try to eat healthy and they had options for me which was a pro, I had steamed veggies and mushroom soup which was very good. I also love their omlettes. my friend got an ensalada which had a huge pool of unappatizing grease in it but tasted good. Love the austin atmosphere, casual and layed back. Can get crowded in morning and so on, but thats normal.

  • Pros: good variety, good pancakes
  • Cons: greasy ensaladas, crowded at times

Migas Review by The Melbourne Method

by MigasMethod

Close to two thirds of the plate (granted it wasn?t a huge plate) was covered in Migas and it wasn?t a thin layer, the small area of plate that was unclaimed by Migas was home to a spot of black beans (more Migas than beans), and when I lifted the tortillas off of the plate I found that hiding beneath the tortillas were ?gasp- Migas! The plate was layed out properly and as for the Migas, well, they also looked correct. A golden mound of eggs, visibly laced with big chunks of tomatoes, green peppers, onions, and jalapenos, all scrambled together and then topped with a thick layer of cheese which was quickly melting atop the Migas. The Magnolia Migas looked good, but as the old adage goes you can?t judge a book by the other book that you actually thought you were buying only to realize too late that you purchased the incorrect book (or something like that). Thus I reasoned that I should actually eat the Magnolia Migas in order to determine if they were any good, and they were. The quality of the eggs was high, though melted over the top there was still enough cheese to make the majority of bites cheesy, and the veggie chunks were crisp, fresh and plentiful. The jalapenos within the Migas were especially good as they added a well spaced, but definitely needed, kick to the dish . Furthermore the quantity of Migas was sufficient to be genuinely satisfying, and even though there is no such thing as enough Migas, the ones served at Magnolia left me momentarily sated. They were good, I?d give them a?oh wait?I?m forgetting something again: tortilla chips. My eyes and my taste buds were clearly having a disagreement because my eyes were sending a message to my brain that there were tortilla chips present but my taste buds were negating that very same message.

So Fresh!

by db100

I love magnolia! The artichoke dip is to die and I always have to have it! My favorite is the Magnolia omelet! The veggies are always super fresh! The gingerbread pancakes are great as well! If you like Mimosas you will love the magmosa, which is cranberry juice instead of orange juice. That is served on the weekends during brunch. There is usually a wait but i have never waited for more than 30 min plus you can shop next door at Prima Dora while you wait. Parking can be tight sometimes but you can park at Prima Dora too.

  • Pros: Great Fresh Food, It's very "Austin"
  • Cons: Parking and sometimes the wait (but it's worth it)

All around good eats.

by mwing82

Great food at totally decent prices. The wait staff seems to have cut the attitude although most of them could still use a shower. The peanut butter pie is to die for!
