La Reyna’s Migas come with two flour tortillas, and beans, lots of beans. Indeed the plate arrived with nothing potato related. In my last review (Mi Madre’s), I referred to a way of serving which I call thirding, wherein each element of a meal is divided into thirds , and La Reyna comes extremely close to committing the crime of thirding. In truth, only slightly less than half the plate was occupied by the Migas; however, this means that slightly more than half the plate was occupied by sides. It would have been one thing if the plate was arranged with half a plate of Migas and then a fourth of one side and a fourth of the other side, but the only side (other than the tortillas) that came with La Reyna’s Migas was beans, lots of beans. Honestly, when the plate was put down in front of me my first reaction was to say “that’s a lot of beans.” As for the actual Migas they had a proper balance of eggs and tortilla chips, with the tortilla chips still properly crunchy without being as crisp as the chips on the table (which is a good thing). Veggies were not easily found within the Migas, though, like Waldo, they were in there if you took the time to look for them, while the tortillas were delicious and had a fresh taste about them. Paying extra for cheese, though annoying (though not expensive), proved a wise move as the Migas arrived with a generous amount of cheese melted on top. The Migas mound was not particularly large but as it accounted for a fairly decent part of the plate (though less than the beans) the amount was respectable. Overall the Migas were good, although they were very greasy, true there was nothing particularly wonderful about them, but neither was their anything holding them back oh wait there was: the beans. I ate roughly half of the rather bland and basic beans, which incidentally is about the amount that should have been on the plate to begin with. Migas Score:4/7 More Migas reviews at www.themelbournemethod.blogspot dot com

I love La Reyna! This is one of the best "mom and pop" restaurants in Austin. The food is fantastic, the service is great and the atmosphere laid-back. The prices can't be beat. I don't know of anywhere else two people can get meals and drinks for $20. I highly recommend La Reyna.
Pros: great food, great service and excellent prices
Cons: none

The staff is super polite and the veggie (mushroom) enchiladas and the enchiladas rancheras (cheese, potato, carrots, chiles) are staples of my diet. Lots of food for little money. I basically moved to a house with higher rent just so I could be closer!
Pros: Vegetarian Enchiladas, Full Bar
Cons: None

I got the veggie enchilada and it was delicious! Very filling. Personally didn't really like the corn tortillas but the flour ones were great. They charge a $1 for the 2nd basket of chips though!
Pros: great service, great enchilada
Cons: charge for 2nd basket of chips

Having never been there before, I decided to try a new Mexican restaurant out for once in Austin. A friend of mine tried La Reyna and told me to go and I'm so glad I did. There are a lot of great tex-mex restaurants in Austin, but this one is definitely now one of my top 3 favorites. Customer service was great, the food came fast, and my bill was not bad at all. Definitely a must-go!

Salsa tasted like Pace picante. The waiter repeated my order 3 times & it STILL came out wrong. There were 4 random hairs in my meal. Moths flew around my head. I went home & threw up from the horrible experience.
Pros: down south
Cons: poor service, hair in food, food is bad

Every time I go to La Reyna, I get the same thing - the enchiladas rancheras. Instead of being some goopy melted cheese concoction with brownish sauce on top, these contain slightly melted monterey jack and are topped with potatoes and carrots. They come with rice, beans, and veggies, plus enough tortillas to make four or five fajitas. The queso is particularly good, although the difference between the small and large is not enough to justify the price difference. They also have bottles of Jarritos Mexican sodas (I recommend the sangria or limon). The only problem I've ever experienced has been with service. Sometimes they're slow to bring out a soda if you order one, and when everyone's done, no one ever brings you the bill. We usually stand at the bar until someone comes to help us, but this can take ages. The food is worth going back for.
Pros: Good enchiladas
Cons: Poor service

I grew up in west Texas where Mexican Food restaurants are a dime a dozen. La Reyna is definitely the closest thing to authentic Mexican food that I have had in Austin. The ambience is authentic, and the prices are very good for the amount of food you get. If I lived closer I would eat there a LOT more.
Pros: AUTHENTICITY, ambience, price
