Slip in for a cold beer during happy hour and stay for a delicious home-cooked Mexican meal. Seating is available inside their dining rooms and on the patio for people watching on South 1st.

While old Mexican ballads play on the speaker system, English and Spanish speaking customers devour their authentic plates of enchiladas and tacos in this local cafe. The restaurant offers two houses and an inviting patio. Inside there is a fan about every 5 feet, giving the restaurant a wonderful breeze that stops short of cooling off the hot plates. Walls are covered with everything from romantic murals to longhorn paraphernalia and Mexican blankets accent the windows and doorways. Their lunch specials are around $7 and the chicken enchilada verde comes with rice, beans and three enchiladas while most restaurants will stop at two. There is a reason this place is usually full of happy people and with salsa that kicks taste buds as hard as theirs does, they stand to keep the place full for many years to come.
Great mexican food

My husband took me here for the first time on one of our first dates. Three and a half years later we are still making regular visits here! The food is always awesome and always of great quality. You can even buy packs of their delicious tamales to take home. They have a great patio and have mariachis on certain nights. The service is great and very fast, and the food is always hot and delicious.
- Pros: awesome food and service, convenient location, good patio
Very best enchilades in Austin
by saltyhook
I am a senior Texan who loves good mexican food & I have eaten at most of the Mex. Restaurants in south Austin. My son and I are addicted to the beef enchilades at Little Mexico, they are that good. Their enchilades have a kind of cheesy gravy that is to die for, & the salsa is made in house daily, very spicy- the real thing, not the ketchup New Yorker's call salsa. This is a small family owned restaurant that has been in business for at least the past 15 years run by Rosa & her two sons Tony & Richard. So if you're looking for fancy this may not be the place for you, but if you're looking for great salsa & beef enchilades you will not be dissapointed as attested by the usual large lunch crowd of repeat customers.
Viva Little Mexico,

Never knew about this little gem!

I love to support local businesses - I actually was headed to my usual place for lunch, but, on a whim, I stopped in to Little Mexico today, and I was not disappointed! The enchiladas were great, the service was great, and the patio was great (except for the roaring traffic on South First - but their nice fountain made up for it). And, they play Latino music over the loudspeakers, as opposed to some tex mex restaurants who seem to think that all gringos prefer, uh... whatever it's called - top 40 or other bizarre stuff. Good job, Little Mexico - I'll be back!
- Pros: Great food, service, ambiance! Love the patio!
- Cons: At times, noise from traffic on South First
We wondered in, and later wondered why??

There was a long wait at our original choice for dinner, which led us to Little Mexico. We are long time Austin residents and have never been to this place......and we will not return. The food is unacceptable! My wife had enchiladas, and I had beef fajitas----both were terrible. It is safe to say that this was one of the worst mexican meals we have had in Autin, and we have been here since 1981. Patio and live music, however were acceptable. There is great Mexican food in this town.......and it is not available at Little Mexico. Sorry
