Very Austinite eclectic

Austin waitstaff ala mode! The best day to go and visit Gueros, in my opinion, if you want the historical value la la is on Sunday! Sit outside while the music plays and the show is all around you, order margaritas and the al pastor tacos...you won't be disappointed! It might be one of the best places for out of towners to see the wide variety of "keep austin weird" folks! Don't go for high falutin, it's a joint!
- Pros: Sunday party, margaritas, al pastor tacos
Go for the experience, not the food
by rsenor at Citysearch
Gueros food is bland. The service and people watching are fun, its generally got a diner feel, and you can't complain about the energy. The prices are kinda high for what you get, which, as I mentioned before, is bland and sometimes lukewarm. But its all about the atmosphere, which is bright, fun, and just goofy.
So, if you're wanting to hang with the hip kids, stick around. If you want good food, shlep on down Lamar to some of the best Mexican in Austin, right in the middle of a strip mall (Azul), and then take a cab back to Soco.
- Pros: Atmosphere, decent service, location
- Cons: food
Great fish tacos! Loved the mayo sauce. Margaritas are made fresh!
by hersheyjan at Citysearch
The catfish tacos w/tequila mayo & freshly-made margaritas would keep me coming back for more. The margaritas should probably be served in a larger glass. But no wait. Great service. Highly recommended.
- Pros: margaritas, fish tacos
- Cons: glass too small for margaritas
YESSSss!

I completely know what McKracken is talking about! Austin is a great city and places like Gueros are contributing factors to the vibe here. If you go to Gueros, granted you're going to get your menus from the Hispanic dude dressed like an emo chick, you'll order your over-priced sh*tty Margarita from a moody server, and probably rub elbows with some movie star on your way in... who cares... I've been there when Quentin Tarrantino was there and let me tell you--what a douche. He was obnoxiously loud and careless about the other PEOPLE in the vicinity. It really was distracting and inconsiderate. And to conclude, what PEOPLE need to remember is that this is Austin not LA and whether you're Ashton Kutcher or Paris Hilton, when you're in Austin, do as the Austinites do and just be cool. No one's going to come up and ask you for your autograph, a handshake, or kisses for their newborn--get used to it. You don't need to make your presence obvious to anyone here because we just don't care.
- Pros: It has an old town feel, great food, and typical moody austinites serving you.
- Cons: Losers like Quentin Tarrantino and crying babies go there and ruin for everyone
GET QUENTIN TARATINO OUT OF THERE!!!
by mckrackin_yourkrakin at Citysearch
I actually like going to Gueros, the fish tacos rock, but the margarita are most definately lame. Anyway, I was in there one afternoon when Quentin Taratino was eating there also and he's just the most annoying person in the world to sit at a table next too. Then I was in there this past weekend and someone behind me was talking SO loud that I thought he wanted the entire restaurant to hear his conversation, also some old lady at the table had the worst laugh known to man. So, I turn around to see who is disturbing my lunch so distastefully, and who do is see?? #%&$'n QUENTIN TARATINO!!! If I'm ever at Gueros eating fish tacos and drinking over priced crappy margaritas again and Quentin Taratino is there, I AM LEAVING!
- Pros: Fish Tacos
- Cons: Quintin Taratino
A little advice
by imfriendlyifyouare at Citysearch
Being in the resturant industry myself, I love Gueros. The waitstaff seems like they are there to work and not to put up with nonsence. I asked why they charge for chips and salsa and they said it is because they make thier own salsas(all 3 of them). the margaritas(on the rocks) are awsome. Yes they were small in stature, but big on taste. they also make their "RITAS" with fresh squeezed lime juice. I Don't mind paying for quality. Also I recommend trying the homemade corn tortillas. Some of these reviews seem like they are the kind of people I don't want in my establishment. If the managers take the waitstaffs side, there is usually a reason. THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT! Also the fish tacos are great.
- Pros: Fresh squeezed juices, big portions, 3 different salsas
- Cons: usually a wait
Best in Town
by srsutton1991 at Citysearch
The burritos and chile con queso here are some of the best I've ever had. The service was average, but hey, it is a college town. I've eaten at many places in Austin, and this ranks with Chuy's in my opinion.
- Pros: Fresh, Reasonable, Friendly
- Cons: Crowded, Loud
Very good regular fix
by msg at Citysearch
We're regulars here and like it a lot. Casual atmosphere makes it easy to bring kids, and the food is very good. For some reason that I can't quite put my finger on, the food seems to be lighter than the typical grease soaked, drowning in cheese, entrees that you get at other Tex-Mex establishments. I especially like the Mole and Tacos al Pastor. Only complaint is the occasional long wait and the fact that the prices seem to have gone up significantly this year.
In fairness to the other, lower, reviews we do have a couple of friends who absolutely refuse to eat here.
Great Breakfast
by shellytx at Citysearch
Guero's can be a pain to get into in the evenings because it's so crowded, but I've recently discovered it's got a great breakfast menu. Perfect place for a Tex-Mex brunch on a Saturday. They also serve their breakfast menu all day long, if you are so inclined.
- Cons: Crowded
quite tasty

Famous people go here. And, you can too. The menu is great and the servers are friendly. A few times, the margaritas have been too sweet (too much mix?). Ask for a floater when this happens.
